Turbonique go-karts - might be the most insane of them all.

This historic photo was actually staged.
The kart was broken - so they pushed it out in front of the starting line and had the dragster launch as usual

And for those who don't know, that is the Bad Habit Fiat and the chassis for one of the Jungle Jim Novas in the background.

Not enough of the car to ID..scoop looks like Tommy Larkin, but ...??

Evertt "Hippo" Brammer, Bill Alexander drove....sponsored by Quincy Auto and Herbert Cams...Hippo (over 300lb, thus "Hippo") was around since the early '50s, raced a street '32 Ford Sedan, and then ran the Burkhart, Brammer & Burns fuel roadster, then on to fuel dragsters...ran Desotos and later Chryslers....like almost all of us, he ran out of money and when he parted out this car, I got the nose...seen below:

    fontana.jpg
Me, two weeks before I "retired" it at San Fernando, 296" Desoto, Hippo helped me a lot learning how to make it run and stay together ... same nose as on Hippo's car, above. Bob Keilty was my partner in this adventure, chassis by Doug Robinson...

    leffler.jpg
Leffler & Loukas, before the blower and the wins at Bakersfield and elsewhere...Bantam body, carbureted Chrysler on fuel, from Parma, OH. Neil Leffler later moved to California, partnered with Bill Coburn on a fuel dragster, later got into funny Jeeps

Not sure where or who this is...this is the way that runs often ended, oil, smoke, and a big bill for the parts you broke...and sometimes a long tow home with no money...back then we usually didn't have a spare engine or a crew or the big bucks to fix what was broken....

    pond6.jpg
Zeuschel, Fuller, and Moody at San Fernando, Don Moody driving.

Early shot of Pure Hell, Rich Guasco owner, Dale Emery driving (though Pete Ogden, who build the chassis, also drove)

    Para3.jpg
Earlier I posted a shot of the Millwinders '35 fuel coupe, this is their competition, the Drifters from Redondo Beach, CA...Millwinders ran Jack Ewell's fuel Ardun, Drifters ran a blown fuel flathead...they competed against each other all across SoCal...pretty evenly matched.

Don't have an ID on this sbc Dragmaster chassis, though it is Fremont..you can tell by starter Chet Carter's T touring in the background....
