Very early dragsters at Saugus, CA...apparently helmets were optional...banger vs. flathead

More Oswego, looks like Jake Shuljack in the coupe vs a dragster. Jake ran a heavily chopped Bantam body, towed the car to Bakersfield where I saw it in the pits...also held the 1320 record for B/FC. Really nice car.

Sorry to keep posting one or two per post but for some reason my "upload a file" button disappears after one or two pictures...."

This looks like a very early version of the Campos Brothers "Lo-Blow" at Lions.

Caption is "Al's Speed Shop, probably taken at Oswego, IL. Looks like a Chassis Research TE-440 that was back-ended, blown Chevy...who is it?

    cache_2544666304.jpg
Early Howard Cams twin, Glenn Ward also drove, in addition to Jack Chrisman

    gabby%20bleekersm.jpg
Gabby Bleeker, still running the blown Olds on fuel...would later switch to hemi power

    Greek-Riverside-59.jpg-595x403.jpg
The Greek at Riverside, this may be the '60 meet when he and Garlits came out to run all the top West Coast cars. Garlits beat Chrisman, Greek beat Ted Cyr, and then Garlits and the Greek raced for top fuel...Garlits won (Speed sport scoop looks right out of the box, it would later be painted black). I spectated at this meet, and stood right at the edge of the track a few feet away from the starting line. There were no guard rails, and so the spectators crowded closer and closer to the track. Sometimes the starter would stop the racing and wave us back, but we just crowded closer after he turned away. The Greek almost ran over my feet. There is a word for what I did: dumb.

Maybe Norb Locke's twin flathead at Oswego?

    hrdp_1104_01_o+1959_march_meet+drag_racing.jpg
Garlits at the '59 Smoker's meet, blew up that meet, and returned the next week with a 454" blown Chrysler, raced and won at Kingdon CA and Chandler AZ. Notice Hank Vincent's "Top Banana" in the rear.

    jack-merkel-defeat.jpg
George Montgomery from Dayton OH goes up against Jack Merkel at the NHRA Nationals, don't know who won, both were hard runners (fortunately 1934 coupe does know who won: It was a big upset, Merkel over Montgomery, Merkel lost in the next round to SWC who went on to win the class)...

    jarvisearl57.jpg
Jarvis Earl's fuel Buick at what looks like Bakersfield. Jarvis was from La Canada, CA, and a neighbor of Don Montgomery. He started with a straight-8 Buick in the mid-50s, then went to this V-8, usually driven by Tom Dyer, who went on to drive the Ansen & Pink fueler. This car would later get a full body and Quincy Automotive sponsorship.

    Larry-Bouldin.jpg
Greek ready to run, one rumor is that this photo was taken just before his 204 mph run at Alton. This was long before other fuelers broke 200, and so the rumor was that he was running hydrazine. Don Maynard denied it, and claimed it was the Isky 5-cycle cam....who knows??

    Ron%20Pelligrenism.jpg
Ron Pelligrini at Oswego, in the former Ivo inline Buick twin...don't think that Ivo actually ran this car, but instead sold it to Pelligrini.

This is supposedly Rod Stuckey's first dragster, which he supposedly bought parts of from someone else and put a Cadillac in it.

I think you are right, here is a picture of it (from your site) -- the injector scoops like very much like the Hot Rod Shop...
