The early version of the Lou Baney/Brand Motors Don Long car that Prudhomme recently restored. Later it ran a full body and had the 8 nozzle plate under the "shower head" injector hat. Also driven by Kelly Brown and Tom McEwen.

Not the Hawaiian --all of the late Hemi cars that Roland ran were Longs and this is not one of Don's cars. The El Camino push truck should be a giveaway as to who this is.

^^^^^^^ I thought that too Marty, but it is not Gotelli's car (the only 426 dragster the I can remember Safford driving) and the helmet is wrong as well.

  17. Steve Reyes identifies the pic (and he took it) as the Hawaiian 2 on his recollection story of Bakersfield 1967. Most guy were still running 392's in 67. I'm stumped.
    So who is it?
OK THIS IS DRIVING ME CRAZY!
I keep thinking it must be a Keith Black hemi, but cannot recall any in 67!
The Hilborn 4 holers were not used by very many teams then.
As for the El Camino, I keep thinking Gene Adams for some reason, but his cars didn't look like that.
Must be a local SoCal racer, it just doesn't compute! I was a teen in Oregon then, helmet means zip!
Like the guy in Magnum Force, "I gots to know!".

  19. I'm not sure when Don and Johnny Loo hooked up...maybe Doc Spence here. This looks to be maybe '65 or '66...is that "circa" enough for you?
