Looks like the supercharger is blowing through the exhaust and the exhaust is exiting where the intake is usually found.

I could be wrong my eyes are not what they used to be.

    Reverse rotation, backwards blown Nailhead?

  3. That would be my guess too. Don't know how well it worked, but I'd sure like to hear it. I heard John Bradleys reverse port 327" fuel flathead run at Irwindale, and it sounded like no flathead I ever heard.

  4. That roadster is beyond cool! What they looked like prior to NHRA, and Warren Broghe ruining the street roadster class. How cool would a match race between this one and Hugh Tucker's roadster be?!!! And they'd run 1320 feet too!

It's a reverse flow Nailhead. The idea is to stuff air in through the smaller exhaust valves with the blower and take advatage of the larger intake valves to get rid of the spent gases.

Here's one in a '63 Stevens flat bottom. The owner told me he got some good HP gain out of it, but sure exactly how much.

Pretty cool idea visually if nothing else!

Kenny Hirata told me a great story about Big Daddy coming over to the Hirata and Hobbs car in the pits trying to intimidate Bobby Vodnik at Indy the day he won Top Eliminator in the Hirata & Hobbs car. He said Bobby who was really young was not the least bit intimidated and told Don that he was the one that had better be on his game for the final. Big Daddy
walked away kinda mad and went on to red lite in the final

Someone mentioned that there is a thread devoted to vintage modifieds (roundy-round) here-- can anyone provide a link? The vintage sprint-car thread is awesome!

I kinda' liked Fuel Roadsters/Coupes. This one only had a 299" Hemi but was a winner.

Besides a 299" Desoto for power, Gary Cagles roadster ran a B&M torquemaster tranny.

    a/gas vs a/d (Denny Dunkirk/Walt Hieser).
I passed up an opportunity to buy the Dunkirk Austin in about '74 for $1500 less the SOHC motor. Thought price was out of line for a car with no motor.

Not in motion but I've yet to see a picture of Smith Bros.& Fetrow here.
Donny Smith was a Minnesota racer who's main business was after market Harley parts. He is now considered to be one of the godfather's of the custom chopper industry The picture is of his "70 Cuda flopper

a little side note: my brother and i went to vegas to run at the test and tune the month before the winternationals several years ago. this is a test time for all the big boys. you wouldn't notice it the way the track treated our altereds though. they would stop the fuelers and funny cars and move them aside, to let us run together. we ran 12 times that weakend and they did this every run but one! we had always heard that vegas catered to the big boys but you couldn't make me believe that now!! i think the strangest thing though was when one of the big funny car drivers came over to me and said, "that looks like alot of fun" "reminds me of younger days" i asked if he wanted to run me, i said we could do a bracket race but he declined. i guess he was scared he might lose. hahahaha
