  3. I met, Dick Gazan in 1983, and was a good friend till he passed away a couple years ago. He was the horse power guy for the 3!man Freedom Machine team. I got to meet Owen McKinney? too, he was the "shoe". I never met Tom Dawes, the owner, as he passed away when Inwas a little kid, and way before I met Dick.

Early Funny Cars (mid 60's) were just wild, but the kill karz were the AA/FA! We didn't have enough on the East Coast, but when they got together, entertainment followed. They were the best...and the noise!

This is what I'm talking about, early Funny Cars. Put the S.O.B. together, and then see if she'll fly. Lemme see, how fast do i want this brick to go? Let'er rip! Just like the FA's, they are all action.

These guys did not get the ink that the fuelers did, but they were the bread-and-butter of drag racing

Tony Nancy ran lots of engines, flatheads, Buicks, wedge and hemi MoPars, this is Olds power...

and speaking of Tony Nancy and flatheads, here is his roadster at the Sparks & Bonney shop, running their blown fuel flathead...turned mid 130s, very strong for the time.

Otto Ryssman, crude but effective. Ran a Crosley body on an A frame, then removed the body to run as a dragster. Otto also raced the lakes and Bonneville, passed away recently. This is Santa Ana

Campos Brothers "Lo-Blow," after they switched from Potvin to top mounted blower, and before the Chrysler that they ran with a cracked block, blew at Irwindale and sent driver Tom Ferraro to the hospital with terrible burns...he survived and returned to race funny cars.

    hello,
the talk about the chizzler, brought back some memories from 1958 at riverside raceway. the big talk was the east coast guys being faster than the west coast guys, so this meet had the big names there. in the pits, the chizzler was in it full regalia. but, for some reason during the eliminations, they kept the nose cone off during the runs.
    enjoy,
    jnaki

I remember seeing this Porsche at the local drag strip in Fayetteville, NC. The driver was probably stationed at Fort Bragg, which is nearby. Lots of guys in the crowd chuckled at the little foreign car and joked about the claim printed on the car itself that it was a National record holder. I remember that they got much more serious when the times came in and some of the local racers came up short against it.
