I think the Old Saying is "It's only Cheating if you get caught" applies here.
How about the years in the 60's when Funny Car racing and match racing really was big.

Many of the top Funny Cars that had a connection with the main manufactures and car companies that had access to parts that were not available to the general public.
For an independent to race against these guy's it was really was never a level playing field.

Match racing was a complete different problem with some promoters running the show and controlling who was going to win each round. If you did do what they asked you to do they would not book you into their shows plain and simple.

I guess in one form or another drag racing has seen it share of cheaters over the years.

I miss the cam grinder wars...they were especially intense in the AA/GS class, but also in fuel and gas dragsters, as these ads attest. I know that there was a debate about how much cams made a difference (Art Chrisman: "It wouldn't matter if you ran a broomstick for a cam").... but they were entertaining (what was "Polydyne," or "super pulsation," for examples??).

Ardun, had a conversation with Dean Lowe about Isky's 505 cam. Back in the day that was huge. We wondered how they could stick such a large cam in an engine..Good laugh.........

  25. In 1961 over 1/2" lift was insane. Dad said "it'll never work", as he was remembering his Clay Smith V8-60s with 3/8" lift. In 4 years we were running over .575 lift, and going faster with each cam change. Dad just shook his head. :)

Polydyne was just more Isky hype, just meant computer designed lobes. When Ryan Falconer started using Isky's cams in his Can Am engines we got "Supper Legerra" cams. Ol' Ed is a marketing genius.

How about those Isky "5 Cycle" cams, according to an interview Pat Ganahl did with Ed, that was Scotty Fenn's idea.

    Hello,

When I was filming the racing action at Lions in 59-60, I kept seeing this one yellow fed making a lot of noise and charging off of the line like no other. The Full front suspension lifts the front end on start, sends the power to rear wheels

    upload_2016-9-9_4-16-59.png
I was trying to find out what powered this fed as he had the most unsual supercharger I have ever seen. There are the early McCulloch Superchargers and the Novi Centrifugal like those on Indy Cars. Of course the Roots front mounted blowers were ever present, but this one is/was one for the books, particulars, anyone? Owner/driver/motor/supercharger/builder?

I went to several other dragstrips and never saw this yellow fed run again. I have been in contact with some people about this supercharger. They thought it was not a Novi, since drag racers were not priviledged to have Novis. I asked why, the Novi source said that they were exclusive to the Indy Cars and teams. But, early photos look very similar…from the internet source: upload_2016-9-9_4-18-14.png upload_2016-9-9_4-18-32.png
Any help is appreciated…what happened to this 1959-60 hard charging fed? What is the story behind the most unusual set up? Suspension and supercharger?
