Later to become Rick "Surf" Stambaugh's "New Generation" car out of the east coast. Rick's son Matt generously donated the rear brake package off this car for my Soapy Sales restoration.

  8. Sorry I'm late to the party! Can anyone ID this car? I crewed on a T/F in the early 70's, T/F 440 "Norris Bros." This looks a lot like that car, especially the GT1 stickers on the valve covers, and if I'm not mistaken, one of the people in the staging area is the Kendall rep.

This is the earliest picture I can find of Willie driving the Harrell roadster that Mousie Marcellus would join. This is March '57, I saw it run in September '57 at Santa Ana after it lost the flames and was all-red. Interesting that it was classified as "Open Gas," which was the class used for gas-burning dragsters, not roadsters...so wonder if this was right after Santa Ana went to the fuel ban...?

From the first issue of Drag News...March 4, 1955...even the best engine builders swapped engines, so here Jack Ewell's Ardun powered Chrisman's #25....

From first Drag News...how many famous drag racers were racing in Feb 55 at Pomona? There is Sid Masters (of Masters & Richter fuel dragster fame), Jim Cassady (victim of Dean Lowe's street roadster years later!), Kent Enderle (of Enderle Fuel Injection), Doug Thorley (of Doug's Headers and later funny car fame)...and I think that "Bourgeils" was a misspelled version of Dick Bourgeois, the famous Chevy racer, stock, Corvette, funny cars...

    Hi Dave

Dick was also the pilot in Earl Wade's red B/Gas Willys in the mid 60's and was the car to beat

Would Jim Kinsler haver any relation to Kinsler Fuel Injection?

  20. A stock winner was Jr.'s brother, Eddie Thompson. Interesting, Clem Johnson, on the Barn Job, won TE. He did that a lot at the beach too.

Dick Bourgeois made a few passes in my roadster after Don Nicholson moved out of Ca, and Earl and Dick did some tuning for me. One Saturday, Dick persuaded me to pull all the ballast, and anything else not needed for racing out of the car. Got over 300 lbs of it, and Dick ran a 10.86. Our 1320 B/SR record was 11.29. Dick tried hard to convince me to leave the weight out, and run the A/SR class. The 10.86 was good, but it needed to be better to be at the top of the class. At the time we owned B/SR, held both ends of the NHRA record, and were winning national events. The weight went back in.

    Hey Dean,
Is this movie clip the Barn Job at Lions? I recall he was always at Lions racing everything in 59-60. If it is, he is racing the Ed Losinski FED with Jack Chrisman driving.
    Thanks,
    Jnaki

  27. Junji,
That isn't the Barn Job. Clem ran a girder fork, and the Vincent would have had two exhaust pipes on the right side. Fork rake isn't right either.
