    Hey Guys,
The movie is fast and difficult to see clearly. But, I tried to do some screen shots frame by frame to see if it was any clearer... That bright yellow injector scoop sure looks like a San Jose Mercury News mailbox...or any rural mailbox from the local newspapers.
I thought it was Colburn/Glaze, but Dave mentioned Jerry Card since the nose looks a little sharp. But, the 3rd screen shot, has the nose rounded, like Colburn/Glaze. But in the last shots, the rear end is not a full body. Plus, the tires stick out of the body and they are not enclosed. So …
Not wanting to stir the pot, but Leffler, still did a great rolling start to jump out in front...
    Any ideas on the opponent?
    Thanks,
    Junji
    Sorry for the "not clear" shots...they are screen grabs from an old movie. upload_2016-12-28_5-30-35.png upload_2016-12-28_5-30-52.png upload_2016-12-28_5-33-18.png upload_2016-12-28_5-33-33.png upload_2016-12-28_5-33-49.png upload_2016-12-28_5-34-7.png upload_2016-12-28_5-34-26.png upload_2016-12-28_5-34-48.png upload_2016-12-28_5-35-1.png

Great shots, I am still sure it is Jerry Card because if it was Coburn the grille would have shown up in the first two shots, and only Card cut off the back of his coupe like in the last shots....I'm looking for a shot of the Coburn coupe from the side....will post if I find it.............Dave

Found it, note how the back of the coupe remains, while Card cut off the back of his, as in the last shots

    Dave,
Excellent find and better shots. I did notice the rear is cut off like Jerry Card's coupe. OK, I just received another email from Nor Cal for a final confirmation that that black, primered Comp Coupe racing against the Leffler Bros coupe is Jerry Card. So, here is a revised film clip information.
Thanks to all...Despite the odd rolling start for Leffler.

  12. Paul Sutherland's Coupe in it's orange paint languishing in Freeman's back lot. it was actually a bustle butt Simca. This photo makes me want to cry. How could anyone do this? At least the 554 was saved.

  13. Another shot showing the larger, rounded rear section of the Simca body.

    Dean,
that is the body style that was most common in Australia (as a Fiat) Not a large number of the "spare wheel" Topo's made it down under although there were plenty of the fiberglass versions later on.

  15. There is a fuel altered called "The Outcast" that runs one of those bodies. It's an old car that still survives. Usually see it at Famoso.
