"I always liked the Modified Production and Comp cars."

Yea, I second that emotion. MP was great that it they had pro stock style launches emanating from classic styled cars. And comp eliminator up through early 70's had the greatest variety of cars; injected altereds, blown gassers and dragsters powered by a variety of different power plants from twin injected BB Chevies to flatheads. I loved sitting near the finish line and watching the driver of the slower car glancing over shoulder to see if he is about to pounced on by the faster one.

What I find cool is the close proximity of residential neighborhoods in the background. Here in So-Cal all the tracks were surrounded by nothing, until urbinization moved in, then bam, the track was closed

    BobW,

Seeing the article on Paul Blevins reminded me of an Edelbrock ad that probably came about after the Winternationals. It stated that Paul got a 100% improvement in fuel economy with the new Torker manifold. He went from 2.5 mpg to 5 mpg.

Can you imagine driving from NJ to Pomona and only getting 5 mpg???

Speaking of MP and manifolds, here is another one for you. I first saw Ralph Ridgeway race in 1966 at Connecticut Dragway with his '57 Chevy. He had made a tunnel ram intake out of an early Corvette FI manifold. It had a smaller plenum than the first Edelbrock's, but worked well.

I ran OCIR one night and thought it was about the nicest track I had ever been too. The tower at night looked magical, or at least it did to me.

I have saw one of those Ridgeway Manifolds. In 1982 I got about 7MPG going to Indy and back, crew-cab truck trailer and stocker.

I can't get enough of skinny Cragars and tall front-runners the way they did it back in the day.

There is just something about a 56-62 'vette with Injectors sticking out of the hood to get your blood pumping!
