Hey knuck, love the pictures but the funnies are too new. The mods may take exception to them being posted.

    Hey K,
Your old posts are pretty nice and different from the other mass posts. But, I am sure there is no conspiracy against you in particular. We all get deleted for some reason or other. It has to do with not being HAMB date appropriate, wrong photos, no cars, motorcycles only, inappropriate wording, etc. There are other websites that take anything and everything. But, they do not have the consistency and quality of the HAMB. Thanks, "mods..."

Ryan and the mods have to keep a sharp eye peeled as there are some that throw in a newer car, race photo or such within the mass of photos posted at one time. It is probably better to post a few at a time with some information on each. Take a personal interest in your finds. It certainly is much more enjoyable to see and read about early Texas drag racers as they played an important part of the whole drag race scene.

296ardun does the best job of posting old photos on the HAMB. IMHO

He was there, involved a lot of hot rodding, and knows a bunch of memories that we all enjoy reading. The posts are full of good information that has not been passed around with attached old photos from way back then.

With the zillion photos online, there will be repeats. But, the posted photos only take a few seconds to see if they are repeats in the same context and search feature of the HAMB.

Some of your Texas wide open drag strip photos look like early So Cal when the homes and development were non existent. It was primarily, orange grove cities, ranching, and rows of crops, all over. The industrial complexes were non entities, yet.

Kudos to those photographers with quality cameras back then. Despite the quality of the photos, those moderators have sharp eyes and fast computer delete buttons.

I guess if you can't run with the big dogs it's best to stay on the porch. white_lightning_01.jpg

There are far too few Texas drag racing pictures on this thread, so thanks for those you have posted!

Maiwald & Callahan...I've posted this picture before, but did not have a good identity, but my daughter sent me a September '53 issue of Hot Rod, and there it was....fuel Cadillac powered, ran 130, but broke on this run. Bantam body is pretty crude, but is still a very cool car...at Santa Ana.

    scotty34.jpg
Charlie Scott's incredible T roadster....it later went to Illinois, rumor has it that it is still around.

    yeakel roadster at lions.jpg
Yeakel roadster at Lions...Don Rackemann drove, usually powered by one of two fuel Cadillacs (one owned by Nick Matranga, who ran a '40 Merc custom), but the roadster also ran Nick Arias GMC. What happened to it?

I would like to know more about this drag strip, as the date would make it as old as Santa Ana...There is another picture of a twin-flathead dragster at Salinas dated 1949....

    ogden6.jpg
    Pete Ogden's fuel Desoto-powered roadster.

Possibly Vic Hubbard, at Minter Field, '55.

  22. Scotty's roadster is still around, and so is the Ardun engine. Neither owner will sell, so the two may never be reunited.
