On post #5895 the 55 that's running SS/PA , I think to run in Super Stock he still has to use the 265 engine and carb that came with the model year car. The rules opened up in Super Stock to allow different cylinder heads, but running a 265 in Super Stock that's cool. The NHRA class record for a SS/PA car is 11.90 and 111mph.

SS/N should be a 265/225hp car (Dual 4 Barrels) 3 speed standard trans.

The baddest mofo's on the planet....real AA Fuel Altereds. Here's one of the nicest guys that was out there. Leon Fitzgeralds "Pure Heaven". Funny how even the big name guys are really just regular working folks. Leon worked at a Chrysler dealership during the week. He and Willie Borsch stayed with a pal of mine when they were on tour. And we stayed at Leon's when we went to California. I took this pit shot at Indy in 1971. Mike

Charlie Hill (of "Filthy Forty" gasser fame) had a bad hombre with his Fuel Altered. Ran a lot, ran hard and won a lot. The late Bob Parmer was the driver. The "Bad Habit" was incredible. Here it is at Indy 1971. I believe the pit rat on the car was Parmers little brother. Mike

I shot this AMX in the staging lanes at Indy 1971. I remember it being a beautiful, well-constructed car. Anybody know anything about it? Mike

    Bob W,

I think I liked better in red. BTW, wasn't this formerly Butch Leal's car?

It was the Leal Car from 1974. I got to see it in 74 and then it showed up at the Summernationals in 75 still in Leal colours and Bagwell at the controls (he must have just got the car). I always like the blue that Bagwell used but then again I'm a blue fan. I also read that it was being restored as a Leal Car but Butch wanted big $$ for the name.

I would go to Gassermadness.com and seek clarification there. They focus exclusively on gassers and cater to the hard gasser folks.

    Mike,

    Good eye!

My photo was taken at Suffolk,VA around 1975.

    Bob W,

    Your photo is the clone.

Also, I seem to remember Comp Cams growing out of Racing Head Service, but this old man's memory is a little shaky. I do remember Mark Heffington leaving Crane and founding Cam Dynamics. Later, Crane bought Cam Dynamics and Heffington started Hypertech.

Don Toulis fell in that time frame somewhere with General Kinetics.

these cars could run a tunnel ram couldn't they?
wasn't the rule 'any intake manifold that fit under the stock hood'?

Then, like today, it was a battle to get the HP to the ground. Less was more at times. The era of the giant killer injected rails lasted well into about 1964 or so. The best example was the Accersories Ltd with Bob Noice driving. A bored/stroked 327 stuffed inside a paper thin light weight chassis made for a fast car. In speaking with those who raced jr fuel back then, as the years progressed, the rules changed to require the cars to increase their weight, thus neccesitating the need to construct with thicker-read safer-tubing. Leave it to the racers to place safety in the back seat to faster speeds and lower ET's

"Lick em and Stick em" ...was there a partnership with Norm Ries? The top gas dragsters "grill" and nose piece is reminescent of his 1969 based AA/C 427 Rat powered roadster/dragster of the same name
