  5. Information from the One Who Knows All About Phoenix Car Scene, Chip Quinn:

Chip: "The photo was shot at their old shared shop on Buchanan and 3rd Street in PHX." He didn't know/remember the name of the guy on the far left...

Steinegger kinda resembles MT and John Mulligan, so you may be seeing "that face" in a lot of different places.

I don't recall ever seeing a draglink made using aero tubing before.

I never put foot to any dragstrip til around the time RE dragsters came into play, right about the time I first witnessed some guy:D with a Boss 302 powered car doing wheelies and scaring the starter.

Me either. At least not in THAT application.
Seems that it wouldn't take much rattling or front tire shake to bend it.

    Hello,

The crew at C&O Stick Hydros were great builders and mechanics. They could identify what was wrong with any transmission and their kits were the best on the market. The main competition was the larger B&M Hydro Company, so their work was cut out for them. But, there was a market for different transmissions in the Gas Coupe and Sedan classes, as well as versions for the modified street market.

I was fortunate that our mom wanted the 1958 Impala to have an automatic transmission, instead of the heavy duty clutch and 3 speed column shift. So, we got one of the first street versions of the C&O Stick Hydro installed. The work was flawless and the transmission cut the E.T. times down to the mid 14s consistently and as usual, the one-two car lead off of the starting line was the biggest advantage. It was a "no worry, stomp on the gas pedal" and hang on for straight driving.

In the time we owned the 58 Impala as modified as it was, the C&O Stick Hydro was an advantage that most cars could not overcome. But, I knew the limitations as to who or what was going to happen in any race. Even in a fun race against our friend with his new 409 Biscayne in 1962. We taught him how to shift fast, get a good start from the standing start motion and continue on for a fast race. He was nervous and as a test, my Impala was out in front by almost two car lengths against the 409 in the first race.

By the time past the 1/8th mile, he was gaining fast and then saw my 6 red brake lights come on for the win, although we were going to finish the ¼ mile just up ahead. I knew my limits and the 409 was nothing but pure power.

The guys at C&O were happy with the results of the reliability of my Stick Hydro in the Impala. They knew their stuff and it showed for 1000s of miles of cruising, daily driving to school and long road trips up into the mountains and down the coast.

C&O stood for Ciambella and O'Brien. Plus, Steve Montrelli doing a lot of the work, too.
