In below picture, IIRC the Steiner Bros A/SR in near lane was running a Mopar dual quad 413 cu in max wedge engine. The roadster was previously owned and driven in late ‘50’s by Henry (Pete) Medlin from Newport News Virginia, with a blown Oldsmobile engine.

Below is same roadster when Pete ran it with blown Oldsmobile engine, probably from late 50’s. While I think the above picture was probably from early 60’s.

    Hello,

We have all seen the Sidewinder by itself racing for top times and low E.T. runs. We have all seen Tommy Ivo in the single engine injected Buick FED racing all over So Cal drag strips in those early days. But for some drastic reason, we saw, but did not record the two racing against each other at any So Cal dragstrip. We were either asleep at the wheel (bad pun…) or so excited at the decisive elimination race that we just enjoyed the moment without documentation.

So, we will be content to see what we actually preserved from those early drag racing times as a young teenager with a movie camera and no driver’s license at the time. What to do with our spare time on weekends?

Tom was one of the IRP regulars in S/S every weekend along with Glidden,Jerry Harvey,Big Stacy Shields, the Ulrey Bros,Beachy Bros and so many others. Great memories. I heard he was living in Florida when he passed.

Nice pictures of the S&H stamp car, one of the prettier cars of the era. The pictures showed the evolution of a race car with changing paint & sponsorship along with the technological change to zoomie headers. Thanks for the great pictures.
