I remember seeing the Shady Glenn Charger in 74, with Gary Burgin driving. It won the Div 7 funnycar title.

  7. I am pretty sure the car in the near lane is the Purple gang of Rapp, Rossi and Maldonado with Gabelich driving. Looks to me (too) like Mullgan in the far lane.
I got to go to Carlsbad a few years ago just before it closed down. It was sad, really run down and old. But, had the look like you would just want to go in there and restore the place. I was told the track was on 30 day leases only, there was no sense to fix or clean up anything. Sad, another track gone away.

Also the black and white picture of the fueler with the weed burners does appear to be Wenderski. Think it was called "Black Beauty"? I think he was killed in that car at Ramona (?).

I concur on your observations across the board. And yes, Ramona was the venue where John Wenderski was killed. There was a large boulder located near the top end, and upon getting sideways in the ajoining grasss trip, he hit it. BTW, the Black Beauties motor was salvagable. It was retreived after the police investigation concluded and surfaced in Kay Trapps Magi-Car

Rosco McGlashan in the staging lanes at Ravenswood in his jet dragster. I think this is the first incarnation of the Aussie Invader, but I could be wrong. Early 80's

The red Willys P/U on the top left has a lot of history. Orgianlly it was raced by Gene Conway as an A/GS. It tehn went to Gene Hicks and was continued participant in the local A/GS, Hicks then sold it to Paul Day and left So-Cal and was raced in Ohio as a B/GS car. In 69, it won class honors at Indy best out nearly 2 dozen other blown gas coupes. Sadly it was destroyed in a crash.

Blown chrysler altered of the Corlett brothers (Corlett Bakeries). As ledgend has it, this car was bought at a garage sale from a lady who really didn't know what it was. She asked how much he (possibly Vic Corlett) thought it should be worth as she really had no idea.

And yet somehow people get excited by overpaid steroid taking ego maniacs standing in a field going "Don't hit to me." or a 7 foot tall man jumping 2 feet in the air, hanging off a rim for 2 points or 22 guys in tight pants rolling around in a pile

Nothing wrong with a good spanking if it's delivered with a feather duster, but that's a whole new thread eh?
Found a handfull of magazines for a dollar at a garage sale and found this and others. Hope no-one has already posted 'em. The article said that Wally Parks credits these two guys with starting the whole "dragster thing". They are Holly Hedrich and Art Chrisman

Here's one for the VW fans, this little nasty was owned by Ron Messina. Can't remember the times it ran, but it was highly strung. Used to regularly lose oil filters by shaking them loose or rupturing the sides of them.

The Mori Bros VW altered included in "Spoons" first photo collage was another car that made the weekly drag papers and monthly rags on a regular basis because of the cars competetivness. The car's last rendition was that of a blower running as a BB/A
