Kosty and his brothers were kool guys ..what they could build would amaze anyone here. Spent a few yrs working on his F/C ... Too bad he died at early age. RIP

Kosty was a Bulgarian refugee who escaped to this country with his family in a hail of bullets from behind the Iron Curtain in 1959 in a Car/Tank that they built

Lets not go back to the earlier posts on this thread and just repost photos that we have seen before. If so, then people will quit coming back to see what's new.
Many of the photos that I took in the 60's have been posted only on this thread, and now I am seeing them again...and again, so I know that they are being taken from this thread.
Lets keep it fresh or this wonderful thread will just die a slow death. Thanks

Sure looks like Arlington Drag Strip to me, and if you look REAL HARD at the tower sign, I think you'll agree. And, that condemned runway is STILL not used for anything; at one time, the local police and sheriffs departments used it and the perimeter roads for a practice pursuit track. The Body for this car was found about 8 years ago. The body was restored and last I heard it was going to get a new chassis built like the original. Hers a couple pictures when it was found and after the repaint with Ivo.

  21. Not in motion but, of historical interest. I currently have the '68/'69 Tyree Firebird body in my collection, still with '69 paint. I plan to have her on display again April 4 and 5 at Speedworld.

I've wanted to post pics too but, have been reluctant to do so because, not sure if they have been posted or not. I have looked through every page but, it is hard to remember so many.

It was said that current Australian Top Fuel driver Bob Shepherd won the money on slot machines to buy "The Gambler" Mustang 2 funny car. After a long wheelstand the left wheel folded under once it came down to earth.
Without steering the errant mount crossed both lanes and impacted the wall in a big way. It ended up turning turtle and slid to a safe stop. Shepherd was extricated and gave the crowd a big wave.

Hi, Dean Lowe: That's the photo Drag News posted with the article. It's not unusual for papers to cheat a little when it comes to pics. And since I grew up on the east coast and never made it to any of the legendary California tracks, I just assumed Drag News had it right...
