  10. No, this is Dick Brannan's car. Phil's had Al Means Ford on the rear quarter panel. His doors also had a crossed checker & confederate flag.

In 1970, Pittman removed the Austin shell and replaced it with a Opel GT body. BTW, in the other lane is Ken Ellis' AA/A

I could never understand why Gabelich would rely on a simple leather face mask to serve as the sole means of protection between his face and the flames and heat of an exploding nitro engine. Ironically, it was his motorcycle accident in 1974 sans helmet that lead to his demise

Since Skywolf did gassers closely followed by fuel dragsters, it reminded me of Pete Robinson running a match race at Tulsa, probably summer of 1970.

I don't remember who Pete was supposed to race, but after the first run, the other fueler broke, the promoter, who I am pretty sure was John Durbin, recruited a '40 Willis B/Gasser who happened to be there from Little Rock, Arkansas to run Pete. I don't remember who won, but I do remember they gave the gasser a four second head start.

BTW, there are some great photos going up here, but I want to say a special thanks to Dog427435 for his amazing contributions.

Pete was one of my fav's, him and "Zookeeper". I'm thankful we've still got "Big Daddy" left to tell the tales.

Thanks for the info Kent. Small world to know you were there also. My dad took the picture I guess in 1970.
