they were made for chassis research. the ones on the car sitting in my dads garage have the name chassis research cast right into them. ive been told they are pretty hard to come by

  3. I can recall seeing 18" versions of these in some of my '50s-era magazines listed as "Indy racing wheels".

  4. Looks like Jim left in a hurry. Bet he regretted not pulling the goggles down a few seconds later!

Maybe someone here can tell me, on post #11825 on Don Schumacher F/C there is the name of a LA Disk Jockey from the old Boss Radio 93 KHJ (old LA guys know the station) The Real Don Steele who passed away in 1997. Was he a sponsor on Schumacher car or getting the LA radio station some PR ?

it only says the real don steele and not khj. since i work for the former general manager from those days, and therefore know how he operates, i can tell you that it had nothing to do with the station. i'll have to ask him tomorrow if he remembers anything about don and the real don.

He was likely just doing his burnout.

  9. This was Marc Susman in a JJ team car (Jungle Jim, Jungle Clare, but I can't recall ever hearing him called Jungle Marc!). Susman had this car (note the chopped top) and was recruited to drive for JJ, so he had his red car re-lettered (as shown here) and later repainted JJ blue. I think that Joel posted a photo of the car in its blue livery a few hundred pages ago...or maybe in post 11820 above!

  10. IIRC, this was Stan's altered rebodied as a funny. This is the car that also prompted a threatened lawsuit over Bowman using the "Flying Dutchman" name.

Nitrobrother, I was trying to remember who Jungle had driving that car. All I could remember was Dutch Irgang driving his pro stock car, and I didn't think Dutch ever drove the funny.

Don Steele was involved with Larry Dixon Sr on his '73 BBC powered RED, no?
