History Drag cars in motion.......picture thread.

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by Royalshifter, Dec 12, 2007.

  1. Ford stopped development of the Boss engine and stopped sending $$$ to the race teams to develop it. Hemi parts (from Ed Pink, Milodon, etc.) were a lot cheaper than going on your own to make the '29 a "real" nitro engine.

  2. It's about time you posted a few more of your dad's Willys!
Cool....KCIR! Any idea who took these pictures?

  3. IIRC, there were actually three Lawman '70 Mustangs built; all with blown Boss 429s (on alcohol). They were sent to Vietnam to entertain the troops, including lots of burnouts and accompanied by "safe driving education sessions". One of them was damaged while unloading and was scrapped (edit: Someone just told me that it's "at the bottom of the China Sea"). Jerry Eckman is the name that comes to mind, but my mind usually smooshes memories together.....

Did you see the photos several pages back taken at the old KCTA strip in the east bottoms?...probably during the '56 NHRA Nationals.

  8. Yup...Skywolf had a shot of the Arfon's Allison-powered dragster (with the "Welcome to Nationals" banner) that was way cool. There was another shot a ways back with some grain silos in the background that I wondered if was the old Front Street strip.

There was a vendor at the Good-Guys swap meet at Kansas Speedway (2004 maybe?) who was selling an original KCTA sign that I lusted after, but didn't want to pay the $$ ($500 maybe?). That's my story and I'm sticking to it....maybe.

This car was 392 powered. Powers and Riley developed one of the first reversers for direct drive units.

Yes he bought it from my dad in 1968. He had the car for a long time, and kept the name but with a little diferent lettering scheme. They are still friends, Dave still does the crank work for my dads cars today. Ive got a picture of the paint he had I will post it when I dig it up.

If anyone knows the whereabouts of one of those reversers please contact me--I need one for my restoration of the Soapy Sales dragster and they are like the proverbial rocking horse shit.

I never had any coke pants - but did have a friend who ran into the back of one of those Coca Cola / Levis "Denimachines" in '76 destroying it, during a drag race on Merrick Rd in Belmore!

  27. Coke pants are cool but I like these more........Now back to the drag cars.
