History Drag cars in motion.......picture thread.

I scanned the photo of the brothers Speed Shop from the Rodders Journal #26. It staes that Harold was killed at Saugus Drag Strip in 1955. Don's other brother, Warren, was killed in a highway accident in 1989. I had the date of Harolds death wrong in the previous post.

 

If anyone wants to see the "Wing" in the form shown in these pix the cacklefest version should be at Bakersfield for this year's reunion along with the current version. The cackle car is the frame that was crashed at the Patch a few years back. I repaired the crash damage and then cut off the cage and replaced it with a roll bar and braces just as it looks in these photos. It will never be the "real" Winged Express but it does have a long history of 200 mph runs with Mike at the wheel.

Fremont Drag Strip, 1967 MFG F/C race I saw Jim Liberman's Chevy 2, Brutus, Samson and the Hairy Canary all sponsored by Goodies. Mr. Norm's Charger, Melrose Missile, Tommy Grove, Dick Landy, Sox & Martin, Drag-on Lady, Color Me Gone, Souza Bros. & Dad, Studio Dodge, Chi Town Hustler Cuda, Blown Hell 55,and a mess of others. What a great show! Here are a few pictures of the scratch built brass chassis for the Jim Liberman Coyle Chevy 2 in 1/25 scale.

The only thing I can tell you on that shot was it was taken in '71 at an NED track

OK...with the look of the light tan sandy ground, stands and pits behind the stands, it seems like it could be Atco, NJ. anyone remember such an accident there?

 

Return road is on the wrong side of the track for it to be Atco.
