Okay, so it's model box art but it's still damn cool.

Car reminds me of Bob Teegle's Orang Crate, a car that was later released by Revell. Man, that 20 foot ring slot should have that coupe stopped on a dime.

Heck yes! Model box art was so cool back then. It really helped your imagination. I really miss good model box art. Having a photo of the model, or of the car on the box does nothing for me.
I remember spending considerable time in hobby shops just looking at box art. I was also more likely to buy a certain kit because of the cool box art! Even airplane and ship modles used to have good box art. What happened?

Lawyers happened. In 1966 there was a Corvette ad that showed a 327 coupe ("flat" hood) but the ad text described it as a 427 car (which should have had the bulged hood). A lawsuit was filed for false advertizing and the plaintiff, a law firm, won. Same thing in the world of box art. How many modelers opened a kit back then only to find that it wasn't as nice as the box art implied? So, actual photos of the assembled model began to take over in place of art. Cost control was a factor as well. It is cheaper to have a company employee/builder assemble a model than it is to have an artist draw and paint the art for a model box.

    Bandit,

Do you which track is depicted in the top shot? Looks awefully close to Muncie...

    Thanks!

It did not look like this at all.
Imagine, packed grandstands so far behind the line that they would be out in the field across the property fence.
That's about where my '57 lost it's fuel pump in the middle of the night, back in August of '69, on the back entrance road towards the 405 with a little bridge over the 5 for the farmers to use and the pro teams to come and go.

You can see this area at the very beginning of Funny Car Summer, from the opposite direction.

  24. Great to see race cars back on the 75-80 strip. Was Bunny back in the drivers seat? I'd heard she had stepped out due to health issues. I go way back with her, as we built the fiberglass for her Pinto Pro Stocker.

Yep....Bunny was driving. Ran 4.20s in the 1/8 on bad air and a slick track.
