So if someone's got a really cool drag photos no ones seen before they should just keep it to themselves, is that the message here?
Rather than put it in this incredible repository of drag racing photographic history?
How about we ask Royal Shifter, since he started the thread, how much stationary pics annoy him? Just a thought.
Like, I only want to see historic drag race pictures if the cars are in motion, you know, becuse they really suck if they're sitting still.:D

Honestly,,who cares ,,yes I understand your point but look at the post count ,,,and really is much easier to search 1 HUGE thread than lots of smaller Threads,,thers tons of god stuff moving and sitting,,and most all of its good.

One stop shopping as I see it :D

  3. 'In motion' is pretty specific. No reason why there couldn't be another thread for general historic drag racing pix to be in. I guess the horse has pretty well bolted by page 646 though!

Yeah, you guys are right. I'll go along with the "one stop shopping concept".

Hard to argue with this pile of pics. One of my favorite threads for sure. Not trying to get anyone cranked up.

I check it on the first of every month to review the following months posts and enjoy the great majority of pics!

  10. One of the best shots ever of the Greek! Look at the concentration in those eyes. That pic is everything top fuel racing was in the 60's. Thanks for a great start to my Sunday morning.

    This thread is a gift.
It is free for you to view whenever you wish, and you can scroll down, page by page, at your heart's content.
The photo that Royalshifter (this is his thread, by the way) posted above shows a Plymouth at the starting line with a crew member tossing rosin on the track in front of the race car.
That car is not in motion. BUT, it's a bitchin shot!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your day must now be ruined.

I guess the only alternative for all the sorrow that people like me have caused, is to go back and delete all the never before seen photos that we took in the 50's and 60's.

Have you guys ever seen the video on YouTube of the teenage girl being surprised on her birthday with a brand new convertible? You know the one where she goes into complete hysterics because she wanted a blue car, not a red one?

    Well guys...here YOU are...

Well said Mazoma! Keep the pictures coming guys. In motion or not this is a great thread! Gives us young (ahem) guys a chance to see what things were like in the best days of drag racing before the giant corporations took it over.

Amen Mazooma! This is my first post so let me thank all of you- especially Royal Shifter- for assembling the finest vintage drag site photo and information archive ever conceived. So, I the viewer may mouse quickly through some items to get to others. And the point is, what? If, like me you want to see post-war through the 70's, someone else will prefer 80's through today's nostalgia stuff. History can't be all things to all people. This site provides the best mechanical eye candy humanly possible & you have our gratitude. DCIM rules :D:D:D!

Those are great! Do you have any more by chance? There was alot of great races back then at that track. My first race was 64 funny cars, watched the Coca-Cola funny car go throught the traps on fire from an engine explosion. Great times.

Thanks to all of you who have posted in this thread. If it wasn't for you all willing to share these pics with us of Drag cars, in motion or not, some of us may have forgotten about the great times we had at these tracks and the personalities that drove them.

Thanks Larry- I are a happy newbie! I'm afraid the old scanner bit it awhile back. But I have lots of old shots in the drawer from the good old days at S.I.R. As soon as I'm able to post them, they'll be up.

My bad, you're right...Gary actually raced under two names, "Allen" and "Patterson," according to Don Ewald, he might have been drawing unemployment and did not want the bureaucrats to know he was driving...I do remember that your father drove the car briefly, was Blake Hill the owner then?

  26. Been into drag racing since before I could drive. Thought I'd seen it all, 'till Skip started this thread. So many cool photos posted I had never seen. Moving, or not, I have enjoyed each and every photo posted here. The still shots of Tony Waters roadster are worth the price of admission! Thanks to all who have contributed. Don't let the whiners stop you.
