This is dave hale's original car from the S&S team. If i remember correctly this is the first run the gentleman that bought it out of the swap meet at hershey ran. Dave was able to purchase the car back and restored it to original.

i did a quick search and see that les's daughter, leslie, still lives in fallon.

since his stroke, elmo isn't nearly as sharp as he used to be. but, we'd both like to see les again.

I work with stroke guys they may not seem as sharp on the outside but on the inside there are still firing on all cylinders so please remember that and talk to them as you did before as no one likes being felt sorry for, and missing on on the cool action because inside there brain is still working. Lastly we are all going to go some day one way or the other and its fun to have people still remember to try and relate to you as they did before as much as possible. Thanks for telling me about the guy.

sadly, it has also affected elmo's thought processes.

These pics were taken by Paul Hicks in '64 at the 1st British International Drag Festival as Garlits and Ivo smoke 'em at Blackbushe.
Followed by some shots of Don and Tommy, and also Pat, Gay Lyn and Donna Garlits who came along for the trip.
Check out the white marks on Garlits' slicks and rims, were these put on to see how far the tyre rotated on the rim does anybody know?

  26. I've never been a big chevy fan but, that is a very good looking car. '65 Impalas are sharp. I saw the pic with this guy matched next to Jack Chrisman and all I could think of was " this guy has his hands full".

Successful or no, I admire his efforts. Cars like that made the drags even more worth going to. It is just nice to see something different.

    HOLY shit!
You pro camera-weilders have some serious mystery-voodoo science!
These look genuine as hell, until you look at the '90-something Ford trucks, and tube-chassis cars sporting drag-stars in the background!

Always gotta do a double take...

Yes the white paint marks are called 'creep marks' a safety item to help combat tire failure by helping the crew monitor wheel/tire movement. if it moves too far they pop the tire off and re-seat it.
    Doc.
