Shedlik did the paint. He was famous for his color melting wherein the nose starts in gold, then slowly moprhs into a different metallic hue.

shedlik! that's right. thanks for bringing that name back to my memory.

his technique of transitioning from gold to - in the case of jack chrisman's mustang - red gives the appearance of the paint peeling off of the body.

Rod was from Kansas City, Dave from Wichita. Their names and accomplishments have frequently been confused with each other's. I lived in Kansas City back then, knew both of them and I never heard them or anyone else refer to them as brothers.

You are awsome, thanks for the fix, very nice work! Just out of curiosity, how long did it take to repair?

  9. Any Aussies got some pics of Graham Cooper's EH Wagon 'The Bricklayer'? Cool car but damned if I can find a picture of it.

    Doc,
there was a great shot of it in a recent issue of Dragster Australia and I may have one buried in my archives somewhere, but buried is the operative term.

  11. Thanks Roo, I just thought it would be a good candidate for this thread. Graham is a family friend, he lived just down the road from my grandmother in Tecoma Vic.
    Cheers,
    Doc.

I saw a pic of that wreck taken from the other side of the track and thought maybe the long lens made the camera man appear closer than he really was. I was wrong.

Looks like Gassparelli violated the insurance regs, look at the little sign.

Any idea who might've built this chassis?

A little hard to tell from that photo as just about everything that can be seen has obviously changed to get the car to certify to later rules. The front axle, Engine bay, etc may give a bit more of an idea.

Here is a photo the Woody Gilmore trick car that was owned by Tom McEwen. It was sold to the Anderson Brothers in Dallas where a young driver by the name of Kenny Bernstein was the driver. They sold it to my friends Gary Rausin and Paul Pritchett. This photo of me, the little guy,and team was in 1969 at ...DIMS. The team was owned by Rausin, Ohara & Pritchett and car called the Wild Cherry Lounge special. Henry T-bar Moose Shroeder cut the trick front end off later and made it a conventional car. Dale Emery drove it for a brief time, unfortunately our friend Paul was killed in it during the AHRA Winternationals at Beeline Dragway. Any one with photo's or info about this team or car please contact me. Thanks! Rob Ragland

You may well be right, that's what we heard in California many years ago, that Rod's cars were so nice because his brother painted them and did the body work...may have been wrong back then.

Did look up Dave Stuckey, though, after your question. First rate customizer and race car fabricator, did not only customs but also funny car tinwork...one of his classmates in high school was Tom Hanna, so that high school must have had a talened shop teacher!

Great history Rob. Some where I've seen a picture of this car on fire with Bernstein driving. I'll see if I can locate it.
