This would be fun to do with a Smart car and a Hemi.

Not sure if any body has posted a link to this page:

    http://www.ohra.us/Winternationals 1964.htm

If not then its worth a look as it has some great large pics from the 64 Winternationals of all the greats of the time. I'm still on page 440 trying to catch up on this MAAAASIVE thread so I apologize if someone already posted the link. I stumbled apon it and it seams its hidden in the website so maybe no ones seen it.

That was an ex-Sammy Miller T/F car. Sammy bought it from somebody on the west coast. Originally,it had a full body.

It's a good thing 100% nitro really does not catch fire easily (like gasoline)
cause there was a lot of silly stuff like that.

In '69 or '70 at Fremont I saw a hydrogen peroxide jet powered go kart. If memory serves, it was driven by a Naval officer. Anyone remember this ride?

Gordon Cullinan was not Track Manager, he continued to race the '39 with Bruce Bachelder. Dan Chipman was track manager in 1965 when it opened under NHRA sanction. George MacDonald was President of Maine Hot Assn.

Wow, Bob, opening day at Island! Now that's some history! We ran down there with our max wedge and later our hemi, only a few times though. Ran our friend, Jerry Stein a time or two.

  20. Ah yes, I watched Jerry Stein run down the 1320 many times at "The Patch" along with JT&J Ramchargers, Johnny Abraitis, the Manhattan Dodge, etc. Exciting times they were.
The picture from 1965 was from opening day of that year. The track actually opened in 1960. I don't want to confuse anyone on that point.

Captain Jack McClure and his Rocket powered Funny Kart. Powered by a 2000Hp rocket motor, I saw this thing run over 200mph at Dallas International Motor Speedway.

Early in Sammy's career, he had an injected small block chevy dragster called "Purple Haze". We used to ride by his house in Wayne NJ often and I would see the trailer in his driveway. I also saw the car in person once at a car show. Anyone have a picture of this car when Sammy owned it?? Is this the same as the T/F car you are referring to??

No. That was an earlier car. This one had a 392-type hemi in it. Andy left the nosepiece off of it when he put the Ford 6 (from a Paterson,NJ Taxicab!) in it because he didn't want to cut it up.

Here is the only picture I have every found of the car. Looks very much like the one time I saw it on display.
