What follows is a quick lesson on how to waste the use of, and wear out the mechanism in a neat 120 format Insta-matic camera. Who knew?

Pics are of Darryl Droke on the Mustang and Sullivan's direct drive Pandamonium 'Cuda.

Is this the car that was at Little River last year for both the Central Texas Street rod event and the Day of the Drags known as "El Toro"?

  23. I think I took that photo of Bob Bowmans Black T, and consider myself to be a fellow 'Stan'....as I'm part of his 'pit crew'.

The two have absolutely no relation, other than pure fluke of name, Bob Bowman's home built Salt T roadster was previously sponsored by 'Stanley' tools, to which, it became a bit of a 'in' joke on the Salt that year to be called 'Stan', the name/joke lives on, the sponsorship didn't. "do ya under-stan-d ?";):D

    Back to the photo's,

    Cheers,

Since royalshifter appears to be maxed out at Photobucket again here are some more Aussie pix to keep the thread rolling along. This time it is the dragster's turn. Again these pix are all from David Cook which explains why all but one were shot at Sydney's Castlereagh strip. Also, like the altereds in the photos that I posted earlier in the thread, I had some involvement in all of these cars, building, crewing or painting.

    Roo

First up is John Mayer's first injected hemi car. 392 with the early style Hilborns on fuel. This was the first V8 powered dragster that I helped out with (in 1968) and also where I learned to pack parachutes, in this case a big old ring slot unit.

John's second car and quite possibly the best looking front motor car ever built in Australia. Same motor now with the later Hilborns but in a new frame with a beautiful body. Photo is from Surfers Paradise and most likely the 72 Nationals. John later had an Attebury built back motor T/F and drove a Ferrari 512 BB on the street.
The Chapman family's injected big block Chevy A/D. I made the cowl panel for this car in the early 70's and also painted it as well as crewing for the team on several occasions.

The second of the Chapman cars which they purchased in a partly built form. My first rear engine dragster body. Also built the headers, wing, and lots of small parts as well as painting the car. The paint scheme was a direct steal from the Vally Fever car of Rance McDaniel with different colors. Got to drive it one time at a test and tune session and crewed for several years at events all over the country.

The Chapman's third and last car when it was owned by the original builder Ross Mellish. This was one of the first rear engine cars to be built in Australia and it had a very long career on the strip before becoming a salt lakes runner.

David Hawke's big block Chev which started life as a BB/D and then progressed to running AA/D and set national records in both classes. Originally 427 powered it later ran the ex Johnny West Rodeck which was the 7th block that Rodeck built. This photo is from the points final meeting at Castlereagh when the car returned to the track after crashing at Calder earlier in the season. I finished painting the body about an hour before the team left to make the 900 mile tow to the event.
Hawke's next AA/D come TAD. David made a trip to the US and purchased a TAD roller to replace the old car but a container was dropped on the crate on the dock and Barry Whitford built this car after the insurance company settled up. Check the fuel spewing out of the tank vent. I styled the body after the Mike Boss Chassis Craft cars from this side of the Pacific which were all the rage at the time.

Thanks for the Aussie pics rooman. I don't know if my PM got to you but I am currently restoring John Maher's first FED and it's great to see a pic of it on here. Thanks to everyone for all the great memories.
