Here's some OLD pics from Des Moines Dragway (I was 15 or 16-yrs old with a Brownie Starflex box camera)

Vern Moats' TOXIC Anglia vs Grove Bros. Willys (I believe still has inj. Olds)
AJAX Speed Shop Chevy coupe vs Paskins & Pignari Special '55

I hope I got the names right!

Hey, I know that guy! Maybe we need to create a new thread called 'drag cars in SLOW motion' for these shots. Seriously, I hoped all who attended enjoyed this years NHRR cacklefest as much as we enjoyed putting it on for you. More info on the dragster at my link below....

  4. Here is a shot of my car taken by my friend Carl Mentz this past Sunday at Beaver Springs Dragway, in motion...:D

Few know the story about why "Panic." I started the car with Don Wilson after getting out of the Navy, Les Hawkins built the chassis and we originally used the Hawkins & Webster motor. Wilson had had polio, which limited his legs, but he still sometimes drove....which was a scary thing to watch.....so when we finished the car Wilson had the car lettered "Panic" and in small letters below, "it's Don Wilson!" Pictures of the original are in Don Montgomery's fuel altered book....I ran out of money and Wilson partnered first with Tom Topping (winning a 16-car altered field at OCIR), and later with Gary Hazen, who took sole ownership after Wilson also ran out of money. To his credit, Hazen (now deceased) made the car famous after rebuilding with a M&S chassis. Have lost track of Don Wilson, anyone know his whereabouts?

Was this same Don Waite who later ran a series of competetive BBC A/Altereds out of Div 7? If so, he was indeed innovative in that he was one of the first to rely carbs and a pro stock tunnel ram over the then more popular injectors
