There was a CHiPS show in season 4 that was called "Forty Tons of Trouble" in this show Ponch was driving a old Vette Super Gas car that everybody bought parts and built it and raced at Orange County (OCIR) . At the end Ponch was racing a guy and drove the car off the track onto city streets and got in front of the bad guys and pulled the drag chute and stopped the bad guys because that couldn't see.

That was the easiest money I ever made with a race car. We got paid to take the car to the track, park it in one spot, move it to another spot, do a burnout, make a couple of launches, etc. BTW, the episode was filmed at Terminal Island in Wilmington, CA. We were there for two days in November, 1980.

Right after I posted I was thinking it was Terminal Island and not OCIR. They used Devonshire Downs to shoot the pit scenes for Heart like a Wheel flim. I was hired as a "pusher" to move cars around and stand in the background and if I remember right the flim company paid $100 or $150 bucks a day for your car if it was used or not. There's some pictures floating around the net from fliming that movie there.

Who built these 72-73 Charger bodies? Aside from Charlie Allen,I only saw them used by Mr.Ed ( the yellow car). These weren't nearly as well proportioned as the kind the Hawaiian and Ray Alley used.

The Dodge that Arnie Beswick bought was a ex-Ramcharger car. Arnie total one of his cars and needed a replacement to fill in his match race dates.

Maybe the brothers your talking about got it from the Ramchargers & Arnie got it from the 2 brothers your talking about.

The way I heard it, Arnie got it from the Ramchargers.

This is how I will always remember the Pacers car. I was behind the starting line at Westhampton when the Pacers made a run, after the smoke cleared there where 2 dark tire tracks the length of the 1/4 mile.

Yea, maybe he did purchase it as opposed to simply providing a tutorial on how to properly run a nitro flopper. The loss of his stable by fire was certainly true at that time

I wonder why Jack Chrisman had such a beautiful car one year & then the following comes out with a plain white car?

    Money maybe?
