And he was a riot in person. Lots of stories and he was very funny too. I got to spend a few days with him when the Fuel Altereds were on their east coast tour. RIP, Willie

Pay attention and back up a few pages. Plum has posted what is probably the most extensive collection of funny car pix around.

ps If you are referring to pix of Willie's Satellite flopper I am certain that there are some shots of it in the series.

Last of the Altereds. Will be going to T/F.

I like to add something about the Fuel Altereds.

Back east we didn't have to many F/A's I've been lucky with drag racing as I got to travel a lot over the years. Move to Long Beach, CA. in '69 for a few years and the fuel altereds blew my mind.

Lions, OCIR, & Irwindale use to have 8 & sometimes 16 car open shows. It was commond to see 20 some cars show up. It waw the most exciteing shows I ever seen as the Altereds did ANYTHING they wanted to do & you just hang on for the ride.

This just wasn't for the fuel altereds. I rember back east of a car called the Jersy Jimmy with a straght 8 Buick and that thing would go down the track like a grasshopper. Hopping all over the place. Very strong running & won many races.

What was really cool was back in the day when they had there filds filled & the others who got bump out came right back up & try to get back into the field. You didn't have no set time to run. You could run as many as you wanted. Guys getting back in & bump somebody out would come back & try to get back in was crazy.

This was for all cars, T/F, Flops, & the Altereds. Drag Racing was fun back in those days.

Back east the oes that went on tour was only about 4 to 6 cars and a track would book them and when they ran we thought we seen something. You had to be out west to see some real shows.
