Thanks Ol'bucsnort, I remeber a race at nashville on July 4th 69 which was a 8 car round robin. I knew we were in trouble when the bridge to the track was made of 4x4's and the grass in the pits was above the knee. We were supposed to run first round at 5pm and the track mgr postponed first round numerous times(which meant changing jets and tire pressures). Well, I run my mouth and stated "what's wrong with these hillbillies?. Well, a hillbilly that resembled Grissly Adams that had too much moonshine wanted a piece of me. The track served alcohol and the fans would run across the track after the light went green. We ran 1st round at midnight and we could not return to the pits because fans who bet for you wanted to fight you. We had to tow the cars back down the track and prepare for the next round in the staging area. We put the car on the truck at 7am and vowed not to return to Nashville. Well, we returned numerous times and never lost a race there. Great time and memories. Mike

  2. That's a great story man! :D

How did you fight off Grizzly Adams? I would have kept a torque wrench in my hand at all times . . .

Hey Bucksnort, i noticed you live in Hudson Falls NY. I moved from Plattsburgh NY in 2005 because it was too cold and no good drag strips near me except for Napierville in Canada.

Good move.NY blows along with the weather. If the wife did not have a good job we would beat feet for warmer climes and year around racing.
What the hell were you doing in Plattsburgh?
Used to run Napierville and Sanair. There are some pics on this site of me at Napierville in my 57 wagon.
Back in the 60's-70's we had North Hudson-Utica Rome-Dover-South Glens Falls-Lebanon Valley. All gone except for the valley.

Bucksnort, in 1970 Uncle Sam wanted me real bad. I was working on the car and Ronnie said "hey mike you have a letter from the selective service board asking me to report for a induction physical. So, I enlisted in the USAF and stayed for 20+ years and my last assignment was at Plattsburgh AF base. I had a great job in the AF refueling airborne aircraft, the next best thing to driving a funny

Thats cool,, a big boys go kart :D

  25. Well, since this was my dads car I better chime in.
    1.Yes,it was a 299 incher.Chrysler Poly block with 354 heads,de-stroked crank with an .010 cleanup overbore(3.635)
    2. I have no clue why the wire is off,but you can see it up by the hydraulic cylider by the Injector.
I never knew my dad to purposly pull a wire(for class) unless the engine was hurt.
3.This is the ex Briggs & Cagle Top Fuel Dragster.
    In it's AA/FD form,it DID have a 392 in it with a 4-hole Hilborn bugcatcher.
The reason for the wedge plate was so he could see better.
He might have left the wedge under the 2-port for a different reason.
My dad never really liked this car,,,he didn't build it,,he couldn't see out of it,,and it really didn't look like a roadster.

I'd like to get ahold of Robert Briggs, whose father was involved in the original B&C AA/FD.
    Thank you,
    Troy Cagle

  26. It ran an 8.39 & 184 but it was on Fuel.
My dad tried running gas during the Fuel ban & he hated it.

The guy actually did not see him coming. The car did leave the track very shortly after passing by him. The car went all the way into the grass all 4 tires going very fast. Thats another one of those safety issues overlooked back in the day. I think the guy was actually just going for a soda. Actually, I do have the pics of the car completely off the track I just did not post them up, and the guy was working.

Here are a couple photos from the 2010 KCIR reunion. There are photos of Danny Miller, Bill Potsfield who recreated the Jim Kirby Dick Harrell 69 camaro, Larry Reyes, Bruce Larson Ronnie Runyan Valarie Harrell and our buddy Dale Pulde. Ronnie and I were at the race that Larry Reyes crashed on 6/20/71 at Norwalk Oh. If you ever get a chance to see Larry at a cacklefest you will agree he is the most approachable and nicest guy in drag racing.
