  8. A history question here. What times were these quick front engine cars doing in their day? Something I have not researched. I think it took a rear engine car to get under 7 seconds?
A new front engine rail is not something you see everyday. I haven't kept up with latest trends in drag racing but happened to find this one recently - http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=RB30+dragster&aq=f - can't mention the engine make here but good to see a mix of old and new technology. Seven second passes on three litres is probably quite good?

Mid 1960's the strong running T/F cars were running 7.30 elapsed times & just shy of 220mph......

Ron Colson.... Colson and Wood.... I bought this car from Ron in 1969 and ran it with a small block and later with a big block (injected gas). Car was built by Gary Wood and featured a four bar rear suspension with small handmade shocks with springs inside.

  11. Thanks for that. The guy in these videos is 'only' doing 175+ terminals which would suggest that perhaps modern tyres are giving him better traction for initial acceleration and perhaps the lack of cubic inches shows at the top end?

I was sitting with Herb Ries of the Porter & Ries T/F'er in my shop yesterday and we were talking about how the pro stock cars are running what he was running or better than the cars in his day. He still enjoys watching the racing from the stands and rubbing elbows with all his old friends in the pits. So much history every time he stops by.:D

My Soapy Sales car had a starter in 1970 but what really dates this photo is the 4 digit race number. I would think that would make it an early modern era car from the beginnings of the nostalgia movement.

I stand corrected. Man, getting old sucks. I guess it was Jim I was talking to at Bowling Green last year. Your blog says Gate job. any connection to Pete Gates?

Thanks for the compliment, though my memory is fading...(I should remember who drove the Heidelberg roadster as I got a very good view of the back of it leading me through the lights at Colton)...forgot the names of the guys who owned it but very good guys...think the name "Heidelberg Speed Shop" came from the city near where they were stationed in the Army in Germany.

Rare shot of Connie Kalitta @ Pomona, 1969. He briefly experimented with a Boss 429 "Shotgun" motor.....
