is this the former frakes and funk car...? looks a lot like it.[/QUOTE]

I saw this car at National Trail Raceway once. As I recall the announcer said that Collett had taken his single engine Top Gas rail and lengthened it so he could stick the second motor in when it became obvious the twin engine cars were ending up in the winner's circle more often.

Notice the trailer in the background. They were form fitting in hopes of getting better gas mileage which they actually did. No semi that's for sure. Many of these were built right in the same garage as the car by the car owners. Who ever thought of making a rolling shop or working out of their trailer?? The real pro trailer builders were just starting too. Matter of fact I have a classic Chaparall from '73 that has been restored to store and occasionally haul my 41 Willys streetrod.

We built our first enclosed trailer to haul the Top Gas dragster in the garage. It actually was quite modern in that it was a full sized tag built to haul our spare parts and to work in at the races or motels when we were on the road. Unfortunately many of us didn't know squat about trailer building or even actual towing the large tags. Nobody had a goose neck yet.

Ultimately this lack of knowledge lead to the highway crash and subsequent fire which caused the destruction of our first Top Gas car. We did learn from it however. The next one was pulled by a truck instead of a station wagon and was considerably heavier and beter balanced.

Okay, these aren't in motion but thought you would like to see them anyway. Taken in Daytona Beach on the motel parking lot where my dad and some of his buddies were staying while there for the Daytona 500. That's my dad on the right in the first photo.

How about the wheelie wheels on the red car??

No blue jeans, double pleated pants, no athletic shoes, tie wingtips, maybe hush puppies and one guy looks like he might have penny loafers behind the blue car, white sox. Cool guys The way it was.:D
