I had the pleasure to hang out with the Pure Heaven crew on 29 Jan at West Palm Beach Dragway. They had a great show. Rat Trap, Pure Hell and the legendary Nanook of Dave Hough. If you have never been to West Palm Beach Dragway, you need to go. Great track and warm in January

This was in my opinion one of the baddest altereds around. Dave Hough and his wife Linda continue to campaign a newer version. Their 17 year old grandson Kyle will be in the seat at upcoming events. On one of his licensing runs he shut of at 1,000 ft and ran a 7.12.

I guess I'm an old "door slammer" man at heart. In the area I grew up in this is what you would think of when you mentioned a drag car. There were very few cars running locally that weren't stockers or Gasser type vehicles. We had what was called "Cheatin' 2 barrel and Cheatin' 4 barrel for cars that were stripped out more than gassers but not as cut up as altereds.

Yep, that photo was taken at Double H, my second "home track" the first being Lloyd's Drag strip in Blairsville, GA. I helped with a couple of these cars owned by a local fellow named Junior Brackett. The straight axel on this car was stretching the meaning of cheatin' as most ran stock front suspension. And with 532 cu in on the front fenders that would have been a "big" cheatin' 4 barrel as opposed to a "little" cheatin' 4 barrel with a 327 or so.

The guy I helped had what he called a 327/365 but he forgot to mention the 365 was cubic inches so he ran "little" cheatin' 4 barrel. Almost no one tore anyone down back then and fewer strips had a P&G to check the displacement.
