The "race" that never was.....the cart was broken, so Ivo ever the showman, had the cart staged at about 1/4 track, and then made this smokey pass, the weedburners almost blowing Jack McClure out of his seat.

 

Ditto that! I'm enjoying seeing cars from a time when I raced them. Even see my old Madness car in there. Thanks.

on film by ABC's Wide World of Sports, it was a pretty dramatic & ugly finish.....



Nicoll suffered a massive clutch explosion, cutting the car in half.... (1/3 actually).

 

These aren't from the "old days" but the car is a tribute to one I worked with back in '63. The driver of the car in the photos is a friend, Bill "Gopher" Nelson who passed away last year. I had forgotten that I had these and had never posted them. The car is owned by Jacky Jones whose father sponsered the original "Bad News" which was owned by Oscar Parker and was the old Frank Vego Ford '62 match race car of Phil Bonner.

 

Is Bob Downey still around...good guy, never got the press he deserved...I still remember racing him in my avatar car, he had a fuel flathead, we were both running 100%, both of us had our goggles fogged with fuel before the lights, so neither of us knew who won...(he did)...San Gabriel, maybe '63.
