Didnt Gary Slusser own the Fiat, with Helmick driving?

  3. Yes, Gary was the owner.

Good point on the destruction of some beautiful cars for the econo classes. We saved a 68 era Don Long car with a new front half for nostalgia T/F fuel in the eightys. BTW the topless 55 Chev was Springer and Price out of Eugene,Or. It was a hard runner, one of the first to run a hat injector on a tunnel ram. It is still running around here albeit less spectacular.

Hi Rooman, love the old Aussie shots. Any idea who would have an entry list for 68 Nats as trying to find out who ran the Bollie. Also love the old shots of Brooksfield as I never missed a meet - good old Mum used to drive me out there until i was old enuff to get a license. do you have a pic of the Prentice and Elliott "Exterminator"?

Boris Murray, saw him at San Gabe and Fontana on his twin engine Triumph running nitro. Crazy wouldn't do enough to describe it. Dean, didn't he live in La Verne?

  16. Yes, Borris lived in La Verne when he was racing. He lives back east now. In the above picture, Borris is qualifying for the '72 Fuel Bike Championship race in Bowling Green Kentucky. Believe it or not, on this wheelstanding, smokey pass, Borris set low ET, and top speed of the meet! In the top eliminator final he broke a chain ruining an otherwise perfect weekend. If you think he was crazy at the drags, you should have seen him on the salt!

  18. You guys are probably going to get crap for posting bikes on this thread, but not from me. The fuel Harleys and Triumph twins, to me, were as exciting to watch as anything running in the 60's.

The Sportster rider must be a pro--he has a red rag hanging out of his back pocket?:)

And to keep things on topic-

He had run over 170 in the mid 9's at Freemont, and figured knocking Gene and Larry off would be easy. He didn't count on Jungle Larry's reflexes. Larry won two straight with hole shots. Don was so flustered he never got close to the roadster's potential. When was the last time 2 steel bodied fuel altereds went at it? The golden age indeed!

Wasn't Don still pushing an old "354" based Hemi in that Altered ?

Reyes included this, and many other obscure cars, in his altered photo book. A very nice little item containing many rare cars from his scrap book. Not just AA/FA's either, but the lower gas classes too. He purpotedly is coming out with another funnycar book that will offer never before seen images. But Auto Books in Burbank doesnt have it, or knows of it.

Steve's latest book is entitled Funny Car Follies and published by blurb. I saw him at Bowling Green in June and bought a copy however, he said Amazon has them.
