Sorry I know these are a little off topic because theyre new shots but just wanted to post some of the shots I took at Texas Thaw a few years back of Bobby Langley's recreations as well as the Grizzle Hopper. I took these when I didnt know that much about FED's and these two just grabbed my attention right away. Especially Bobby's FED's, at first I thought someone had gone crazy with a new hotrod flair for them until I actually started talking to them and realized that these where how they looked back then, amazing works of art for sure, especially at 150mph+

Bobby's #5 Scorpion is not a recreation. It is the orginal Don Garlits built frame that Bobby raced.

The Gopher State Timing Association (AA/GD) did it. George Reece BB/GD did it and so did Rodger Lindamood experiment for awhile with the tactic of reversing the scoop, all for the reason that you assumed, air flow disturbing aerosol effect of fuel I guess.

I believe the Anglia that Ohio Geroge is racing is the Dillion & Stroupe car originally from So-Cal

I had the HRM that depcited this car. It was so far ahead of its time in terms of being a "street car."

    Scoop backwards GSTA

Ray Rutteman was the crew chief of the GSTA Twin during it's life time. I also was a member of the GSTA thru our clube "The
    Roaddualers"

Ray always had something up his sleeve good or bad, trick or not. Since I also ran TG and it was a very competitive time, sharing secrets especially when we shared garage facilities simple was not done. We always tried to out fox each other. The scoop was one of his. Whether or not it helped it was debatable. It was a distraction to others however. The more attention to it, the less was paid to the real good stuff. I'm surprised he didn't have one each way.

We all ran better as things got ironed out but the twins got 2 things better for our one so they (twins) were simply impossible to beat unless they had problems. Ray deservs a lot of respect for how he handled and tuned the car and for his expertieses. He did help me a lot even though we were competitors.

    thanks Ray

Did anyone have a heads up circuit that catered to the inj gas dragster classes? Here in So-Cal, Lions promoter C.J. Hart created jr gas. Basically cars up to 360 something ran jr gas and bigger motors ran in what was called Senior Gas. The jr gas class had a bigger turnout. Great supplement to a fuel altered meet or inj funnycar circuit race. Most were well detailed and adorned in nice pyschedellic paint.

They are just staging. Look to the top right of the black car and you can see the stage lights.

At first I though it was our "black car" but we never had an orange scoop. Can't remember who that was. This was the year before the twin. Maybe 2 years before. GSTA was a beautiful car.

Check the "Cushman" track vehicle. And the blue Caddy hearse in the background. Very popular tow cars. Not many fat people in the crowd either. haha
