Are you sure of that? I have seen several photos of the car being run at Pomona and Fontana 63-64. In one instance with the above 2 port Hillborn and later with a Enderle Bugcathcer

  7. I think this coupe was owned by Sheldon Schmit, and it was Glenn's engine.

By Golly I thought I remembered that ! And this is what Bowling Green used to look like ! It was a full race track that went half way to Hopkinsville!! Not the remnants left today where the shutdown used to be longer than todays whole track.

To casually look at that duece you would think it was anyone's smallblock or with those tires, maybe even a big block gasser. But it was a 292 inliner that caused havoc and mayhem in Modified anywhere it showed up.
Many times, by virtue of the number of entries, you could loose track of who was who and what was going on in Stock and even Modified during eliminations,....... but if you could look at this photo close enough, you'd see the crowd is coming to their feet as the announcer in the tower called this race out and this particular H/MP rolled into the water. I saw these guys in Nashville and they didn't have the front end tied down. It stood on the rear bumper so hard it scraped rubber off the surface down the track when it left.
.......... whew wee........ glory to God if you could see this race today.
I'm trying real hard to look, but that could possibly be Paul Mercures Camaro in the right lane, if this photo was early enough in time.
I luv this site. What a flash back!

1978 would be too late. I am confused anyway because after close study, the car in the right lane doesn't look like a Camaro anyway. It was the red deck lid and white body that threw me.
Wonder how many races ol' Buster launched ?
Great stuff guys ! Great stuff........ Tom S.

If the reference to the car in the right lane is in relation to #29609, it has to be either a 61 or 62 Vette. I assumed it was Pete Smith's 62 that ran Perry in the finals and lost, as shown in the you tube video-Jim

I've been a Ford man all my life but this just says "Drag Racing". Loved those Gassers, MP, Cheating 4 Barrel or what ever they were called at your local track.

Now you mention it, I recognize Tommy Grove alright. But I wonder if Reyes is driving for Mr. Taylor when this photo was taken. #29548 looks like Fred Goeske's car, not the Kingfish. But I just had eye surgery and could be incorrect. Tom S.

P.S., Thanx from me as well for adding identification. This is great stuff.

Nowhere near as fast as the cars in this AMAZING thread, this is my g/f Dawn in 1979 driving her '67 Falcon at Westhampton Speedway (LI, NY). She threw the slicks in the trunk, drove to the track, slapped them on, and away she went! Not bad for a cute little 19 year old Blonde. She won many a weekly Eliminator.

Here is Dawn today. She build/paints/restores Guitars...Nitro Lacquer only. This one is Lime Metallic with a Rat Fink Logo for a Rockabilly Player.
She still insists we sit in the first row just behind the Line at ETown every year for the Fuel Cars. She'll be thrilled her race picture is on this site.
You can take the Girl outta the Track, but you can't take the Track outta the Girl.

They seem to be fleeing towards a possible ambulance for the racing damsel being carried by one of the officials.

The photo of the drivers is from 1968, Reyes is driving the Super Cuda. Photo 29548 is from 1970, and yes, it is Fred Goeske's Duster so your eyes are okay. In the foreground is the Javelin of Dick Bourgeois (started out as Doug's Headers Corvair in '68, changed body to Javelin in '69 and '70).
