Tom...any chance you have those negative? The color would be unreal if you did and could get them scanned....Doug.

No chance at all Doug. My mentality at age 21 was probably to just throw them away with the envelope the prints came in!!

The print of GBP shot has subsequently disintegrated into a crack right along middle of the car since this scan was made 5-6 years ago. And that's the way it went to RJ so it will be interesting to see if they use it that way or not at all. It's a pretty iconic shot. The Beach isn't it? It's the only photo I have from there.

Rick Finch, Mazooma, or anyone have any photo's of the S&S/KS Pitman Firebird funny driven by Ronnie Hunter out of Nashville? It was a semi successful short lived east coast circuit car with an early model for power, 69 or 70 season I can not recall which anymore.
    Thanx; Tom S. in Tn.

The car was owned by Chuck Stolze (S&S Parts Co.) and built during the 1967-68 time frame. Gene Altizer was very involved with the initial construction and I believe it was a Logghe chassis. KS Pittman's name was used to facilitate match bookings and Ronnie Hunter campaigned the car. If I remember correctly, it was run for a short time in 1969. The story goes that the car was stolen and never recovered.

The Atlas Oil Tool Spl. derived its tail section from the Cretz and Coleman team. R/U at 67 Winternationals, driver Gene Coleman was killed in the car. At the time of the accident, the Hanna formed tail section was in the trailer. Cretz sold the tail end to Bateman who mounted it on this car.

I've looked everywhere for this! I knew some body out there had to know about this car. Thanks much.
I never cease to be absolutely floored by some of these shots you guys have archived.
Are you by chance a Div II member Old Racer?
I don't want to push my luck, but what about Hunter & Hancock's fuel altered that preceded this car, any old photo history of that one? : )
I was around the final days when Ronnie tried his luck with Dick LaHaies rear engine car in pro comp with Norman Sitz at the controls. Used up all his early model parts supply and changed focus to business endeavors.
    Thanks again; Tom S.

I was thinking this car had an early model Chrysler in it, but my memory has not recalled cars like this in over 40 years. The commentary on Conways Firebird with a Chrysler brought it back to the forefront.
I always heard that car was stolen in New York State or somewhere, but that's another Fred Clifford story......... thanks a million for sharing.

Its kind of funny that you think it was stolen in NY. The picture is of NY National Speedway on LI and more than a few cars where stolen and found there way into street racers or parts for street racers.

I wish I could help. KS Pittman always ran early Hemis in his AA/GS cars including the Opel in the early 70's. Something tells me the funny car had a late Hemi...but I'm not sure about that. Its been a long time ago!!! Glad I could be of some help with the pics...

Its been a long time ago!!! It's all relative you know : )
I knew this was a S&S owned car, and Hunter was making a comeback of sorts after his crash at Nashville. I suppose his involvement was driver only.
Thanks all for clarifying this up for me.
Still looking for anything on the Hunter & Hancock AA/FA. (blue bantam out of west Nashville with early model, won Bakersfield 67' (68'-?))

There is a fuel altered pictorial book out there features that very car, Hunter and Hancock. It is depicted at a Irwindale night race. The car featured a lower stance than the atypical altered of the era.

  26. This car was owned by Pete Eastwood for a while, up til about his divorce I understand. He cut off the original roll bar and still has it so it can eventually be put back on (this was done because it was no longer legal and the car was to be raced) It is currently owned by Chuck Johnston and has a Flathead for power. It has alternated between a blown flatty and a Hilborn injected alcohol flatty with exhaust ports out the top as seen in this photo.
