Hot Rods Drag guys! Parachute tech??

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by HotRod28AR, Oct 27, 2008.

  1. So I want to put a functioning parachute on my '55 but I have no idea where to start. I've never had one, or really studied one up close. The car has a glass trunklid with no bumper, but does have an old traditional round push bar. Any photos or parts to look for? Any help would be great. If I can keep it looking period too that is a plus. Thanks,

Weld in a cross member between the frame rails with a bracket to attach the shroud lines to. Or you can weld a bracket to the rearend housing to attach the shroud lines. Mount the pack to the deck lid. If the push bar is a T shape DO NOT allow the pilot chute to be angled down when you pack the chute. Been there done that and believe me it will make your asshole pucker. Shroud lines can be a PITA kinda like Murphys law if it can it will. Remember your life could depend on the parachute. Be Safe. Hope this helps.

Just a couple of ideas: The attachment point of the chute should be somewhat in line with your crank if you extend the center line to the rear of your car and make sure your chute is angled upwards for deployment. There are a few different chutes, for the size of your car....

Practice PACKING your chute - not only that but also UNTANGLING it. There is a bit of a science to quickly untangling one. More pressure at the drags too.
