Hey guys, Can anyone offer up a definition of (E) Modified Production Cl*** (E/Mod)? Around 1970? Thanks... Hyfire
Modified Production generally consisted of vehicles that were modified using engine/transmission combinations not offered by the manufacturer. No straight axles, no engines from other makes, etc. The "E" cl*** just meant the car either had a large engine and was pretty heavy, or a small engine in a medium frame. Before all the aftermarket heads and things were available, cars ran based upon cubic inch to weight, sometimes advertised H.P. to wieght, in the case of stock and super stock cl***es. Did that help, or did I not address the question?
The reason I asked is I was told my car ran this cl*** around 69-70. It is a Dual Quad/ Cross Ram 290 with some serious engine mods, 4 spd, 4.44 rear and in a little Rambler body. So this sounds about right... correct? Thanks for the reply! Hyfire
I see that you're car was an AHRA car. The names and rules for the cl***es were different for the different sanctioning bodies. An E/M for AHRA could be E (or ?)/MP NHRA. You would need to find someone with the rule book for the sanctioning body your car ran. Larry T
I think he's looking to put what the correct historical cl*** markings would be. Someone here surely has a 1970 NHRA rulebook lying around. Depending on weight, it could be c, d, e, or f I'd figure.
Google is a wonderful thing................ page 26 http://www.selectric.org/ahra/1966rules/index.html
1971 NHRA A/MP 7.00-7.99 lb./cu.in. B/MP 8.00-8.99 lb./cu.in. C/MP 9.00-9.99 lb./cu.in. D/MP 10.00-10.99 lb./cu.in. E/MP 11.00-11.99 lb./cu.in.
Thanks guys... E/MP for AHRA: 11.00 and up is correct. I actually found some really good info in a 1968 Car Craft magazine on this since I posted. I think I have this part pinned down. Thanks again for the help. Hyfire
