History Drag Racing Pics From 1955....

Are you sure these photos were'nt taken at Great Bend,Kansas.? I know Olin Davis ran this car there in 55.. He later sold this car to Sammy Ventura,folks had Itanian Village rest.in Dallas..Sammy then sold the car to Larry Lee...Have not seen it since...Olin is still very much alive but not doing too well. He is however at the annual
Drag Racers reunion held in Sachse,Texas every December.

 

One picture had a "new" 55 Chevy and one had a "new" 55 Ford. I'll bet it was some kid with his Dad's car out there runnin' the shit out of it.... Did kids do that back then??? Nawwwww !!!!

 

I looked up a shot of the '55 NHRA Nationals at Great Bend. As you can see the starting line and background are quite different that the shots Marty's dad took.

I was thinking the same thing. That looks like the old KCTA strip, probably taken at the '56 nationals. Someone else mentioned Great Bend. I haven't been there; was it located by grain elevators too? They're why I think it's KC.

Here's a shot of the 1956 NHRA Nationals in Kansas City. The grain elevators in the background look the same, but the lack of other high profile cars that were at the nationals, and not in the photos make me think that the photos were taken at a different event at the KC track.
