  1. Say you wanted to build a period correct, pre-'65, gas class car, what would be the best rear tires available? Then, as well as what can you still get now, as far as a reproduction?

  2. Then. Englewood, Bruce and Casler slicks.

  3. How wide? I have some aluminum slots, I think both 8 1/2" and 10". The 10s are probably a bit too new, '67-'68-ish?

  6. What car are you doing this to?

No, but I am literate and actually read the ads and features in my magazine collection instead of coloring the pretty cars with Crayolas:rolleyes:

M&H was the hot set up back in the day. Check out Hurst Tires at www.hurstracingtires.com They look the closest to the old M&H's. Alot of the Cacklefest cars use them. CARSICK

Yes,,don't remember the exact year they came out ,,but I was runnin' M&H's on my '55 D/Gasser in '66,,

  11. I found a Corvair that already has been converted to rear-wheel drive. I'll be re-constructing the frame from rectangle tubing and slipping a my 331 Hemi in there(probably run an early small block at first, until I can afford to rebuild the Hemi), and a solid axle. There is a 1/8 mile strip locally that will let you run most anything, ought to be fun.

  12. Add to that M&H.

  13. I had a pair of theirs a few years ago, I traded them to a buddy. They were still in his garage last weekend...

I saw the Bucron thread, no activity for a couple years, and no source for re-pops.

    What about Radir?

Saw these on the Hurst site:

Another vote for the M&H piecrusts, they were the shizz back then. The Hurst retreads look pretty close. A lot of people wouldn't use retread tires back then, but the technology is vastly improved now. 10" was pretty wide in about '62-'64. I saw Bob Bondurant race a Stingray with slicks all around in a sporty car race, back in the day. Most of the available sports car tires were just too skinny back then for the available horsepower and cornering ability.

  18. Do you mean already converted to front engine configuration? Sounds cool with either the Hemi or SBC.

On tires, M&H piecrusts are very appropriate. I have a few pairs but they're small - about 27" tall and 6 1/2" wide.

  19. Yeah, it runs and drives on an S-10 chassis. I plan to re-do the front half first, and put in the engine. Once I blow the rear axle, I'll fab the back half of the chassis. I want to do it a little at a time, or it may come all apart and never go together again.:(

The 1964 Honest Charlie catalog has M&H, Bruce and a generic house brand.

M&H had the reputation and most of the big timers ran them.
