    Hello,
This yellow modified roadster was a very cool looking race car. Obviously, it was Isky equipped, and had Enderle Injectors, but what was that thing on the front of the motor? Another centrifugal blower? Inquiring minds would like some ID for this yellow roadster and equipment. Driver? Owner? It has Weeks on it...
    Thanks,
    Jnaki

    Hello,
In looking at it several times, is it a fancy cover for the GMC 671 Gilmer belt?
    Thanks,
    Jnaki

Junji, it is Weeks, Granzer (?), and Palmquist, front-mounted blower with multiple carb induction, described in Drag News as "a metered leak." ---they mounted the blower up high for some reason....later they went for wire front wheels until NHRA banned them on altered and roadsters.....(love these old videos!!!...)..Dave

    Hi Dave,
What issue of Drag News and is there a web link for more information? A photo of that unusual motor would be fabulous. If there are any around. As always, thanks for the information...
    Junji
By the way, are you back home, set up, and ready for the films?

Hine’s Auto Body, Douglassville, PA based B/SR. Street Roadsters were very competitive and popular with fans. Lettering shows a 292 small-block Chevy with Hilborn injection. American mags up front, Keystone Kustom rear wheels.

Here's a couple versions of that 32 on "A" rails...notice that the roll bar never changes.

Willis Ragsdale’s Chevy powered roadster won Little Eliminator at the NHRA Nationals in 1961. The Denton, Texas racer ran this Chevy powered roadster for many years, then built a new roadster for B/Street Roadster class. During his long racing career Willis won many class trophies and Eliminators using Chevy, Boss 392 Ford and 426 Hemi engines.”Raunchy” was never pretty, but always fast.

There was no more feared or competitive AA/Street Roadster than Hugh Tucker’s ’29 Chevy bodied, (’32 Ford grille shell) blown Olds powered car. Tucker later modernized the car with a big, blown Chrysler Hemi and the domination continued. It’s since been restored and appears at nostalgia events such as the annual California Hot Reunion, held at historic Famoso Raceway, outside Bakersfield.

I find a little humor in the name "Carole's Mink". Where the $ went...poor Carole:D.

  21. Drag roadsters and Altereds always gives me goose bumps just by being what they are - overpowered light weight, short wheelbase beasts. Forget the morning coffee, this will wake ya up and get the blood flowing:

In the early 70's I was in a small Portland area drag racing club and one of the guys cars was called the "xxxxxx Family Financial Disaster".

  25. One fact about the Hugh Tucker roadster not widely known is that the engine in the restored car is the first one Hugh ever owned. The Olds belonged to Hugh's partner Dave Stoll. The Hemi belonged to John Rasmussen. Another fact, when the original steel Chevy body was replaced with the one off glass body, Hugh shortened it a bunch to put more weight on the rear axle. Hugh shared that with me a few years ago. He said "basically, the body was illegal, it's a good thing nobody ever parked a stock '29 Chevy beside it!"

I saw the Tucker car many years ago at one of the So Cal Speed Shop pre LARS shindigs.
Cool piece of drag racing history.

  28. Dick Gazan told me, that one year, while they were in line for tech at Indy, someone did park the same year (thought it was a '28?) Chevy street car, not far from them, and they had to convince the guy to move it befor the NHRA Tech guys noticed the difference (in the length of the cowl). The first Hemi to go into the roadster, was owned by Tom Dawes, and came out of Tom's Top Fuel dragster, "The Freedom Machine". They converted it to gas for the roadster.

Most of the bodies I see in today's Comp Eliminator cars have "morphed" from their original profile / width to something more aerodynamic. When they let the '23Ts move the turtle decks up high on back of the tub I knew we were headed down a slippery slope from which there would be no return.

Dave Rudy’s ’32 Ford B/Street Roadster, “Rudy’s Beauty” easily lived up to its name. Candy red paint, chromed-everything and flawless appearance made it a Best Appearing Car winner at numerous events and later on the ISCA Hot Rod Show World circuit.
