The Mad Frenchmen

 

Yup, that's me. The other driver is Charlie Smith who later ran the Plain Vanilla altered roadster. We both won class, and that was first round of street eliminator at the '63 Winternationals. Had him 'till half track, then the bigger cu in came on. It was close at the lights, but his 125 got around my 119. Eliminator brackets were heads up then.

 

Nice Dean. Were you a B/SR then?

Also, is The Mad Frenchmen straight eight the same guy as the late Clem LaChance of Ford 300 Maverick fame?

If you take some time to study this shot close there is really a lot to take in.

 

He sure took the '63 hood rule seriously!

 

Even hard to spot the TINY mandated headlights

 

I liked the louvers in the front fenders (airfoils).

 

Lots going on in the chassis too.

 

I missed those!

Nolan White in Pete Dean's roadster. They ran the engine from Nolan's Bonneville A Modified sports car. Rick White has restored this roadster. Note the blower has carbs, not injectors.
