Google (our friend) show that a Rice Aircraft Services was involved in a somewhat dubious transaction involving sourcing ex US military Huey choppers for the government in the Philippines.

''I (not me) would say that this is during tech inspection at Indy before the 1961 U.S. Nationals. This was a very famous car, the 22 JR. Ford roadster of Tony Nancy. The engine is a blown Buick, as Tony was a really big nailhead fan.

That's 3 hours I'll never get back! Totally worth it! Thanks to everyone for sharing their pics and knowledge.

    One question:
Seems that some of the real early double duty (streetable) roadsters ran a bolt-in roll bar. There appears to be some kind of clamp? that holds the forward or rear facing strut bar to the main hoop. (see 33 roadster in post 630, 30-31 model a in post 782-pic 5, and also the rpu in post 803). Was this some kind of kit? Anyone have details or a close up of how this connection was made? Thinking my cabrio might need a bolt in bar...for fun, of course..and maybe a little function....

Mine was removable so I could put the top on for street. Just a fabricated 2 bolt Dutchman clamp.

Dean's still my favorite. Friend sent me pics of a really neat old B/SR yesterday on my phone--don't know how to get them on here.
Got em on here finally-know nothing about this rpu--was at a friends shop.

And it could have been every bit as exciting and compe***ive as gas cl***es had others decided to go after Hugh Tucker's soft records. Without compe***ion, Hugh never ran the car to it's full potential, preferring to keep the ET slower than the supercharged gas cl***es and gain the advantage on the tree in eliminator run offs, and forcing the g***ers to break out trying to run him down.
