  1. Love that roadster. It got parted out and now the frame has been used for a long time under my pals 32 roadster. The body is now a streetrod on another chassis

Here's one I really like; the hot rod turned street roadster owned by Stan & Patricia Bottom. The car was featured in both Hot Rod and Popular Hot Rodding. Can anyone provide any additional info on this drag racing couple?

Fun Fact: The white RPU runs 2.47:1 gears out back. That thing'll hook in a mudslide.
    Slooow... but deadly consistent

I have to say that the inline 6 has some serious fun factor. Nicely done.

Old roadster Colton picture copy.jpg Colton 1954, GMC-powered. Yes, I know it's a 55 Ford. "Back in the Day" you tested it at the drag strip.

Here is an update to the Brookville 32 that my father and l have been building since 2012. I posted a photo or two probably 5+ years ago in this thread when it was in primer. Moved under it's own power yesterday for the first time before an issue with the starter and an oil leak out of one of the galley plugs forced a shut down. Poor quality photos, but you get the idea. Obviously heavily influnced by many of the roadsters in this thread. 20230925_141652.jpg 20230925_141659.jpg 20230925_141641.jpg

    Hello,

One of the most unusual roadsters was racing in a Flathead powered class. At first, we thought it was in a street roadster class, as some street roadsters had custom paint and ran directly from street legal to dragstrip. But, the more we saw of this small roadster, we realized that it was in a Modified Roadster class. Modified, due to no fenders, open headers and an engine set back, a 25% set back was in place.

(Street legal “Street Roadsters” and “Gas Coupes/Sedans” were allowed a 10% motor set back)

At first glance, the nice Tahitian Red or Candy Apple Paint and White scallops makes the photo seem like it is a legal street roadster. Add in the white wall tires and Moon Discs still made it difficult to decipher.
But, despite the cool look, the rules state the need for fenders.

At least there were some competition race cars that could have been a street legal roadster, but with some minor differences. Plus, with the motor set back farther than the legal Gas Coupe/Street Roadster class allowed, there was not much room for the driver to be comfortable on a daily drive.

There were two open wheel roadsters were seen cruising during our teenage days. One got stopped for no fenders and despite the argument of 1500 pounds or less, he got a ticket. The other, unscathed for the whole cruising around experience.

The local police were usually looking for lowered cars and loud pipes versus no fender roadsters. So, the roadster that got stopped had "loud" exhausts as part of the "stopping for a ticket," moment.

    Note:

"No person shall operate any motor vehicle having three or more wheels, any trailer, or semitrailer unless equipped with fenders, covers, or devices, including flaps or splash aprons, or unless the body of the vehicle or attachments thereto afford adequate protection to effectively minimize the spray or splash of water or mud to the rear of the vehicle and all such equipment or such body or attachments thereto shall be at least as wide as the tire tread."

"or any vehicles manufactured and first registered prior to January 1, 1971, having an unladen weight of under 1,500 pounds."

Don't forget there was the (altered) Roadster class.
    Street Roadster -- 10% set-back
    (Altered) Roadster -- 25% set-back
Modified Roadster -- anywhere else you put it

Can't tell what this one is -- looks like Gas Roadster to me.

  23. And not to forget that early HR class of roadster's.....
Ah how we forget those early 195 - HR guys......

HR, Hot Roadster was the class for guys running nitro, eventually it evolved into Fuel Altered. I’ve seen very early pictures of Pure Hell when it ran a SBC with an HR class designation on it.

Yeah -- I think the HR was the early designation for the Fuel Altered Roadsters -- alky, nitro or whatever.
And at the same time, GR was for the Gas Altered Roadsters.

    (Your strip may vary.)

  26. Yep.....an earlier car they ran before the 195HR fuel altered was the 315BH roadster about 1958/59 - it was a 1932 roadster I'm sure ran the GMC motor out of the BVILLE car first then the Hemi - any idea on the BH ? Having trouble with the picture of it loading up.

  27. Old photo - the 32 roadster was Don Argee's and my uncle's motor/fab work.

My guess is Blown Hot Roadster -- no need for an R, you can see it's a Roadster.
