Norb I have not laughed as hard as this afternoon for a long time (sort of at your expense).

One of my artists has a little girl. She has pretty much grown up here at the shop. She is just about three years old now. She comes in to my my office and sits on my lap and we dras pictures at least twice a week.

Today we are drawing snails. She reaches into the container on my desk that holds markers, among other things. It spills of course and one of your bullseye decals comes out. Ting is excited and woo-hoo a decal!

    20210315_103416.jpeg

She peals it and I said where are going to put it. She said I think I goes on the snails!

    20210315_103422.jpeg

I think she has your number Norb! LMAO!

Wow! Only 2 years on the belts! That is just hard to take. Going to take a lot of runs to get the cost of them down to $1 a run!

So the one piece unit is the new one and the other is what the wrap around style belts used to be. Two pieces. Not sure who at Simpson came up with that plan!

My attachment/wrap points will not work with a single upper belt. Fortunately. The only part of either set with date codes are the ends. So I just swapped them out! Lol

  14. Now add fire suite, arm straps, neck protection and helmet. Then lets discuss about pain and tight space...

It looks a bit tight, I will admit. But to be honest, it is more like a glove. Everything fits perfect and feels really good. I had to order a new helmet. The one I had when I ran the Austin was just too tight. It was that way back then and nothing has changed. When I put it on yesterday it made me feel closterphobic. With the Austin I would notice it in the staging lanes but after making the turn onto a track there were better more important things to think about than a tight helmet...LOL.

I was sitting there last night with it on, belted in the car and it just didn't feel right, you know what I mean. I want to be comfortable. Maybe it is old age? LMAO. Tonight we installed a floor loop for the crotch strap. Very exciting preparing to drill holes though brand new loop carpet. But we trimed a section out where the plate bolted and completed the drilling with no runs in rest of the carpet. Honestly I have never been a big fan of the 5th point on the harness. In fact I never used it in the Austin. However another change by Simpson's brain trust was to change the Cam Lock Quick Release unit to crotch strap instead of one of the lap belts as in the past.

However while making adjustments here and there with the other four belts trying to get safe and comfortable I noticed that if I had the crotch strap locked down I could loosen the lap just a bit which gave me a bit more mobility in the legs. I am really happy tonight after trying it again with all five belts locked in place.

Well sort of a slow start for the old Cobra today. You ever see a snake trying to move around on a cold day? Well that is pretty much how our day went.

It all started late last night after bringing the car our of hibernation. It had sat and ran for a while and I reached down and flipped off the master switch. Nothing happened.

I am running a one wire alternator so the MSD supplied diod is worthless.

    20210320_090811.jpeg

So to fix the run on issue (this morning) I had to snag an old Chrysler style resistor block (above) and wire it into the switched wire of the MSD box. That took care of it.

Then we promptly hit the road with nearly everything in the trailer minus the kitchen sink AND THE TOOL BOX! Nice.

So at the track we go up to make the first pass and I guess my new Simpson hightops kept me from letting the clutch out. But we made a pass, sort of. I think my truck could have out run us. Maybe even with the trailer in tow! But we went down and came back.

I was pretty sure it was foot error and not clutch slippage and we had zero burned clutch smell so I decided to give it another shot. I told Dad to watch the burn out closely, if he felt it was slipping at all to wave me off AND I made sure I came as close to side stepping the stupid pedal as the limited space down there allows.

Then I went right up to the light and left at about 3500 or so. That is like driving an old hay truck. But we went down again. When I got to the return road I was pissed. There was nothing on it with me so I ran it up to about 6 grand and dropped the clutch we were moving. I let off really quick and the car did not like it. I first thought I just totally flooded it with fuel but it would not start and we got towed back to to the snake pit.

After it sat for quite a while I gave it a try. No go. The car will not start. It will nearly fire but then backfires through the injectors. It is like it is 180 degrees out. We pulled the valve covers to be sure we didn't do any thing stupid. All looks good there.

It has to be in the Fast EFI box or MSD or combination of the two. Of course I am lost, and the only help I got from James (saltflats) was we should install some points! [emoji38] lol. Just kidding...

We have a couple of thoughts for tomorrow. One I am going to take the battery and get it charged in the a.m.

We may have just had a voltage drop and neither of those systems appreciate that...
Also for grins, I am going to uninstall my Chrysler resistor block since that is the only change we have made to the car. You never know.

Hopefully we will have another go at it tomorrow. If not. We will unload and car show the hell out of it and spectate Which to be honest in the last several "Hot Rod Reunion" we have attended, that is what we did anyway. LMAO!

Well the Cobra was a show n shine car today. The computer is still jacked up. Jackson and Poison Ivy got to the track a bit late but just in time for the second and final time trials. He went 10.68.

I'll try harder to show up with a proper car next time, at least we fit in the race event for the weekend. :)
