I had trouble getting a good amount of stall out of mine. It was a ST300 unit modified by Buckeye. The most I ever seen was maybe 2000 on the high side. My dad had one modified by Buckeye about ten years before me and he gets 2800-3000 out of his. I pulled that unit out and put a different trans brake equipped unit in that car. I would like to put the switch pitch in a more street based build later, but I would still like to get more stall out of it. Might have to give tri-shield a call. Did you provide them a core or just buy it outright?
JIm at TriShield said they don't have cores any more, but fortunately I found a nice original one from a guy at a swap meet last year. He was just looking at my stuff, we got to talking, and he mentioned that he had a ST300 transmission. turns out he only had the converter, which was fine with me, because that's all I needed. $25.
You are allowed to change cl***es. It needs to be done before your first timed p***. After that you are locked in for the week. Jim it would be cool to have a second blown car in my cl***.
for some reason, I'd feel bad about not entering the cl*** that the car was built for, with a car that the cl*** was designed for.
my son as some of you may know works as a engineer at chrysler. we planned on doing a father and son dream cruise weekend next week. he just sent me a text that chrysler to celebrate dream cruise will be having drag races and shooting a episode of road kill in the old silver dome parking lot. races will be 1/8 mile. street tires only. there will be bands, rides in hellcats, celebrities etc. now for the best part the winner of the race gets a hellcat. i just called kilpatrics and got a pair of hoosier dot legal tires. i can't p*** this up.
That's outstanding! That will be a weekend neither of you will ever forget, and that's BEFORE you win the Hellcat. Best of luck...
new this year, they posted the list of entries. (I don't know if they've taken some names from the wait list yet?) Here are the first three cl***es in alphabetical order of cl***, then estimated ET of car. There will probably be a few HAMB friendly cars in some of the other cl***es, such as Street Machine Eliminator (which replaces Daily Driver), just because the cl*** rules are a bit odd.
Been hard at work. Going with plan b. The coupe was recently damaged. So the 66 chevelle is going. I have had it since high school. It has not been on a race track since 1984.
Hope that I can watch some of your guys test and tune on Sunday night at St Louis Looks like we will stop on the way home from the Hunnert Car Heads Up and Running at The Black Sunday Drags earlier in the day there. If I have anything left.
I don't know if we'll be able to get in any runs, it's iffy sometimes on Sunday, depending on what else is going on...I think they have another event wrapping up, and the way things usually work, that means we won't get any runs in. But stop and say Hi if you're in the area. Check the schedule carefully, I think registration is one place, racing another, on Sunday? I need to read it again
I am sure that what ever I can catch of it is just going to make me sick that I don't have my car done and in line.
Making progress in the chevelle. The dash harness along with the engine harness were replaced. The drive shaft loop and seat belts are in. Rear rims are at the tire shop getting new skins. Purchased rims and slicks due to the new tire rules. I got the fibergl*** front bumper on. I picked it up at a swap meet this summer for 25 dollars. I have alittle more to do but i will be ready.
Pulled my transmission last night, it had been making a few odd noises, and some metal. Looks like the converter bolts were going to give me a lot of grief soon, one was out a few turns, the other two were just starting to come out. ugh. But I have a "new" rebuilt converter, I was waiting for it to arrive before taking the car apart. I guess converter bolt torque check needs to happen more often. Also the intermediate clutch was pretty toasty, not gone yet, but lots of hot spots. Direct was a little burned, not bad. And the rear roller thrust bearing was shot, and the direct drum was eating into the case a little. I guess it's ok for 30 runs, but it would be nice if it lasted longer. Oh well. Might get it back together this weekend, my son is going to pick up parts in Phoenix for me, and give me a hand with it.
the time has come for drag week 2015. some have already left for st.louis. I'm heading out at noon sat. I'm driving the chevelle with no trailer. i took the car to union grove on wed. the car has not been to the track since 1984 when i was in high school. since wed i changed the clutch, recurved the dist, rejected the carb, wired the horns and added a air fuel gauge. i stole it from my coupe. for those that do not know my coupe was severely damaged in a crash a few weeks ago. it has been a major thrash to get the 66 ready for this years drag week. it was not easy being banged up real good. while not nearly as fast as the coupe i will have fun. we have a good group going again this year. good luck and safe travels to all. as the ads say this aint tv this is legit.
Its been rough on the hamb guys on day one of drag week. Some just got to our hotel. Squirel is a few hours out yet. Some are broke and out. I will fill you all in later. Right now i need some sleep. Another long tough one starts later this morning. Drag week is no power tour.
Me too, catching it on my lunch break. Good luck to our fellow HAMBers! Hope the road is kind to you.
Squirrel is in a sealed hood cl***. Apparently pulling his blower off through the opening for repairs without opening the hood.
Yes that is true. They have a sealed hood and sealed engine cl*** on top of the regular cl*** you enter into. About six miles outside of st.louis the blower froze a bearing. Now jim is no *****. He drove the car from arrizona to st.louis. he had all his stuff in the car. No trailer. Now picture yourself broke down on the freeway over a thousand miles from home on day one of compe***ion. I called hamb regular steve morley. Aka tricky. Now the power of the hamb kicks in. Steve drove 45 min down to squirrel. They get the blower off without breaking the seal. Steve drives 45 min back to his shop. Steve builds engines for a living and just happened to have bearings gaskets and a lathe. Several hours later and another 45 min drive the blower is back with the car. Everything gets bolted back together and down the road he goes into thr darkness. It was around midnight with a six hr ride to indy. Now in a cl*** act squirrel offered steve cash for the work done and steve refused it. I think they will be friends for a long time. The guys with the gold high life car broke some rockers and bent some valves. I fried a spark plug wire on the headers and bent the wheel studs. We are in cordova now. Another big day coming up. Sleep is hard to come by. Its hard racing followed by long drives. Its constant action with little rest. This is another great vacation for us car guys.
Wishing you guys the best. Drag Week is not Power Tour! It is an endurance test of both man and machine. I did in successfully in 2007. As I entered Great Lakes Dragaway yesterday, I contemplates doing it again. But that means I better get into shape!
