After reading these rules, I might as well pull the plug on my car.. My framerails are not made of any of the materials noted in the rules. And my cage is a 6 point 1 1/2" .118 wall. . Also the rearend that I chose is a S10 chev. "C" clip style axel with a mini spool. So I would have to get the retainers, after market axels etc. When I started this project, I was under the impression that it was a build it with what ya got lying around, For as cheaply as you can.. Now its turning into a NHRA controlled "RACE" car deal.. I don't need another White Elephant in my joint, Already have one..

Come on Dick, They are guidelines to save a builder some aggravation. The roll cage reference says at least meaning MINIMUM and 1 1/2 .118 is allowed when using a 6pt see SEE NHRA 4:11. Not many garage builders are going to go to the trouble of bending their own frame rails like yourself, that's always been the rule (see#1) and I'm sure that you'll have no problem. I also apoligize for screwing up the the axle reference, I have changed it. We all know that someones Broken Bones, Blisters, and Blood is the reason for most if not all of NHRA's rules. Please play nice buddy:D Rocky
"O" don't tell anyone but I have a mini spool also!

  3. Wow.....top stuff, that's awesome, as previously mentioned your car represents to me what this class is about, great/encouraging to see.

Those front end mods are awesome, might enquire a bit later about details on what bearings and exactly which Harley rims you used, as I know my front end is heavily overweight, especially my solid rims and heavy tyres.

    Cheers, and looking Awesome,

I think all you have to do to make the rear end legal is to put a stock pig back in it.

Then you don't need the axle retainers.

    Hang in there.

I get nearly furious reading the NHRA rule book, but without some sanctioning body we would have a bunch of nearly-junk, dangerous cars and reckless drivers just out for a thrill.

Wait a minute......that would be a perfect description of Dick Kraft and the "BUG".

It looks like there might be a little daylight under the right front. Definately not any weight on that tire!

That looks cool to be sure, but IIRC there was a Youtube video with one of the Aussies W/ a Flatty Ford (spacing whom at the moment, and I'm not finding the link here or the vid on Youtube) pulling both fronts on the launch. Not for very long / far, but no doubt about picking them.

Now you people know why 2B is so hard to beat. You had better have lots of motor to drag him down at the top end or you won't see the light come on in your lane.:D Roy

Sorry for the mix up, (my fault entirely, can't blame drinking or anything as I wasn't at the time :().

Don't know why I recalled it as Aussie (aside from they tend to haul ass maybe??).

    Early onset senior moment???

Well I haven't posted much since my pursuit of the Eagle Field event. With all the west coast HA/GR's coming together Oct 10th I figured we need to get after it a little and tore the engine down for a cam change and compression increase. Much to my suprise I find the engine to be a 170:eek: and to top that off I killed the compression with an '81 200 cid head:eek::eek:. So we are going to redo the original head, shave the head .060 and reassemble the engine with a steel shim head gasket. I have ordered a nice little cam from Clay Smith and hope to have it all together by the 10th to do battle with the best of the west coast cars. We will see as we seem to like a challenge, photos will follow. Rocky

Ok Rocky, now we know how you pulled that wheelie in the Magizine picture, a lot more cubes than you knew. How many RPMS does that little motor turn now? And I have added a little on you in the (burnout list). Joe

We put a SUN tach on it and it jumped all over the place just over 4000 RPM's. So we took it off and our shoe just shifts when it feels right:D

Funny how you don't notice things....lol! There is a pic on your build thread showing your engine with the head removed. It only has three freeze plugs on the right side of the block, indicating it would be a four main bearing engine. The seven main engines have 5 plugs. That engine didn't belong to the car it came from! For a 170, that thing really hauls, proving yet again it's all about power to weight ratio, not big inches.
