Thanks Tom, The camera DIED today hopefully 2morrow we'll get some shots. OK, so I stuffed myself into the car and made a pass........... a tire spinning 15.88! After bruising my knees on the dash bar I decided I better find a "Shoe" that fits and looks like we'll have HAMB "STAR" behind the wheel......but you'll have to wait until tomorrow for more on that. The trans worked great for me even though I was cramped, so I'm sure Lee will have no problem shifting it. More tomorrow, Rocky

OK The Cats out of the bag! Royalshifter filled in for Lee and did a great job, running a 16.16 without missing a shift. We had a great time @ the CHRR even with only 2 runs on the car, we spun the tires but our goal was achieved, We Had FUN. We'll ease her off the line and get our shift points right and we should pick some ET. Russ was talking smack :D so we better get with the program. We got to put the car in the ANRA Booth on Saturday and hopefully drummed up some interest. Check out Royalshifter's thread for some funny commentary on a Great Time @ http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=300948

Good times, wish I'd have been able to make it.

Rocky, your "ringer" looks down right comfortable in the car.
Perhaps a tad too comfortable looking?
"Almost" as if it'd been built around him, hm?
He's significantly lighter than we are, isn't he, hmm?
That'd be a considerable weight advantage, wouldn't it, hmmm?
    Doesn't miss a shift, hmmmm?
Intriguing that Lee was unexplainedly "unavailable" for a big meet, hmmmmm?
Mr. "Royalshifter", I think we have YOUR number ...........

    :D :D :D

Sounds like you guys had fun.

    How'd you like the gearbox?
    How'd the cards work out?
And where'd Butch have his booth?

Good show Rocky. Patti and I are really sorry we had to miss this one, the car looks great and it sounds like a good time was had by all.

Now.......you have a lighter driver, all you need to do is to remove some weight from the car.:p

Dick, Royal' had a GREAT time and did Fantastic for his 1st run EVER at a Drag Strip. I love the action of having to shift a real trans, jurys out until the Finals in 2 wks on any performance gain, probably gave out (or lost) about 50 cards and the ANRA Booth was right in the middle of the Midway. Butch said he talk to Russ that's why I thru in the "Trash Talk", if we had race cams, tires, pistons, carbs.....ANYTHING race maybe we could drum up some promotion propaganda:D:D:D
Tom keep after it, we all need to be @ DRAGFEST (Drag Race at Famoso:rolleyes:) the first of May!

Glad he had fun, definitely "in the spirit". :D
His first run ever was a 16?
Russ, I don't think you get to be noisy just yet. After all, it did take you four runs to squeeze out that 15. :D 'Course that's mostly my fault for not getting those SUs right yet.
Methinks Mr. 'Shifter may do it second time around.

Rocky, you're going to have the carbs on for the final, yes?
Also, you're right about the water & street treads, they don't mix at all. The last run I made last time out I did a wet burnout just for fun but it knocked around half a sec off the run as the tires turned rather than biting for most of first. Must've brought some of the water along for the ride. You can just hear it in that video too.

Good on you for the cards too, I'll try to do something like that as well for the final. If you have a scanner would you send me a picture of your card? I may try something similar.

ps. You get any pictures of you in the car? :D

Ralph, Sorry I missed ya on Sunday but we will be at the ANRA Finals Saturday and Sunday with the HA/GR, come by and say hey. Dick, the Mrs. failed to get a photo of me stuffed in the car with all that was going on, it was just her and I. I am going to leave the single carb for now and see if we get any gains from the tranny change. See ya in 2 weeks! Rocky

Haven't they passed the "No Cell Phones in the staging lanes" law yet?

No wonder you ran the 15.88.:D

Next time you need to build the car to fit your body.

Next time I'll fit, the car will have TWO engines and a Blue Tooth:D:D:D:D. All kidding aside I enjoy watching Lee drive the car more than I do driving it.

I've been reading about the HA/GR stuff for about a day. This is one of the best build threads I've found, very helpful. Kudos to you. Beautiful work. I appreciate your efforts in getting it all posted. I've done a lot of build threads, and it's a thankless job. :)

    I'm already eyeing a donor truck... ;)

    If I missed it, I apologize. :)

How wide between the tubing in the cockpit? Looks "cozy". :D

    Frame is a perfect rectangle?

Your right about "cozy", it's 19" between the rails and too keep it simple for body fab, etc. it is a perfect rectangle. This is my original drawing of the car, hope it helps. Rocky

If you were to build another, what width would you shoot for between the frame rails? And just to toss this in there, I'm personally leaning toward 24" between. Or a maximum of 28" at the back and tapering to about 16 at the front.

I would probably go 22 - 24" ID IF I built another:D I finally snapped a couple shots of the completed drivers compartment.........I didn't think it was that dirty, Rocky

    Appreciate the pics.

You know what's funny, I'm gonna be honest... not knowing the full rules yet, I thought the brake lever was... well... "hokey". turns out the NHRA guy I quizzed about the altered rules says, yep, that's how that's done. I'll be darned. :)

The hand brake allows on foot on the gas and one foot on the clutch when staged so you don't need to worry about rolling out of the lights.

There seems to be those who prefer a "pull" lever and those who prefer "push". Take your pick on that aspect or research the reasons and choose on that research.

I like the pull as I feel that the "G-force power assist" could lead to an inadvertent lock up in the shutoff area. Some prefer that assist, or just like to push rather than pull. I've looked an many of the best cars out there and seen both configurations, so it must just be a driver's preference thing.

Hi Vector, I left the left emergency brake cable on the rear, I have the clutch on the left, brake on the right and to the right of that is my throttle. With the brake cable on a lever on the left side for staging. It is set up just like that blue chevy pickup. The reason for this is in a bad problem, I can't see me turning loose of the steering wheel to grab a hand brake. I have too many years driving this way to change now, I want it to all be natural in a bind. I use a ratchet style of posi. in the rear end, it also should be safer if I get sideways it should come out of that easier. In an earlier thread you probaly saw where Rand Man said that he wants a foot brake. And that pickup would look great pulling a HA/GR in the same color. After all a toy should be bright. Joe

The three speed has Lee him smiling EAR TO EAR, no more was he along for the ride counting stones along the retaining wall, he is BANGING GEARS! The manual trans improved his reaction time over the stock auto and the car ran a BEST of 14.65 (.55 seconds quicker than the stock C4), breaking out:( by .010 in the FINALS:D. The interest in the cars is awesome, from what Old6' and I can tell we think there may be 7 or more cars by DRAGFEST:cool: Check out the "Match Race" photo:D, Rocky

    Thanks for the photo Rocky,

Do you have some more? All I remembered to take were some stills in the pits.

We call 'em a staging brake. If you don't get handy at staging while pre-loading the clutch, you scatter driveline, usually axles (with the stuff we're racing). So you have to pull the e-brake and inch into the lights with it.

I'll be pretty comfortable with whatever it is we come up with. It should feel about the same. Other than being about 1/2 as fast as the manual tranny stuff I'm racing now... ...lol...
