This reminds me of the 1967 film "PIT STOP" where Sid Haig plays a nut case super waco figure-8 driver at Ascot Park Gardena. Haig played his role at 120%.
Hoodlums...Bad Hoodlums, cool cars, cool tunes, bad attitudes, ignorant racing...Going thru some Mr. Link Wray tunes now...quite the musicmaker....Thanks for the Rumble.
It's a clip from "Teenage Thunder". A B movie from 1957. Actually a pretty good flick if you ever get to see it. Mick
Who is this Wray guy you speak of? played a lot of local clubs in the DC/MD/VA area. I read some where that the title for Rumble came about after a fight at one of the clubs he was playing at in Fredericksburg.
LINK WRAY is a God!! I was lucky enough to hang with him in the late 90's when he played at the Knitting Factory on Sunset in L.A. Got some guitar pointers and an autograph. Photo is the pick guard he signed. Also met surf guitar legend Dick Dale.
A couple of useless facts about Link Wray. Born in NC and credited with being the first Native American Rock Star started out as a Country Western band called The lazy Pine Ramblers. Moved to DC in 55 and opened a recording studio, Link got TB in 56 and lost a lung ending his singing career. He later moved to Accokeek MD built another recording studio in the basement and experimented with feed back and distortion. He pretty much invented the power chord. Pete Townsend, Jimmy Page, Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen and hundreds of others credit him as their biggest influence. Link Wray, Danny Gatlin and Roy Buchanan three of the best that ever picked up a guitar were all local boys. Must be something in the water.
I have 6 Link Wray tunes in my music inventory; DRAGGIN FATBACK JACK THE RIPPER MUSTANG RAWHIDE RUMBLE These are all excellent songs to have played through the car speakers from a MP3 player or CD.
It said "Copy Link" (heh) on the YouTube video so I did. Here's, get this - Jimmy fricking Page playing air guitar to "Rumble" and laughing like a little kid again. Mr. Wray must have been a big deal back in the day.
Do yourself a big favor and get both of these albums.............. Just be careful when you visit the Sundazed site, it's easy to spend way too much money there.
A true hero. In a perfect world he would have cashed in a lot more that he did. He is buried in Copenhagen, Denmark.
This is a good one also. Link Wray and The Raymen Mr. Guitar original swan recordings Kind of pricey but 32 cuts and there are some great cover songs along with different versions of his hits.
